I have found an OB locally that I am thinking of buying. Model # J150VXSSS S/N G04810164. I got this over the phone from a guy with a heavy accent so I wouldn't swear to it. I know it's carbed and a 25" shaft, I am wondering if anybody knows whether or not this could still be registered with any kind of warranty? He says it is still in the box. Any info or tips would be helpful.

Thanks.

Re:

My sources say it was sold in Wilmington,Ca in December of 1999,and the warranty has expired.

Check w/Bombardier to be sure.

Kinda makes sense. He says he bought it for a project that he never completed. Wilmington is not too far from where it is. Would it be normal to register an engine before startup? Thanks.

I would make sure engine is running properly before purchase and/or resgistering it...Good Luck!

The Dealer registers the motor when he sells it.You might consider it only a 'parts' motor until it's run.2 or 3 years in a box is one thing. Now we are talking 7 to 8 years of sitting. Not saying it's junk, but if you fire it up and a bearing goes ....... it is.

Kind of interesting that I was just on e-bay looking for parts for a Kohler Magnum 8 HP engine and I ran across a Kohler V-twin engine that had a striking resemblance to the story on your outboard. The description said "purchased for a project". I'll go back and see if I can find the ad again and see where the dude is located.
