Sold my 2011 Weeres Cadet Cruise 200 with 75 Mercury, and want more performance and H.P. ( kids are getting bigger ) I have been looking at Manitou's. Went to dealership today, very nice guy, had lots of toons and right down the road from the lake we go to the most.

He has a brand new 2012 in the showroom, that he obviously has had for 2 years. Said he sold lots of them, ordered more and still has this one. Its a Manitou Encore 24 Pro Angler VP Tritoon, with 2014 Mercury 150 4 stroke. Tow bar, in floor storage, changing station, two live wells, Fishfinder/GPS, dual batteries, etc.etc. Comes with playpen cover, and tandem axel Yacht Club trailer. I told him I don't want to play *** for tat games what will he sell it to me today for, and he said $35,000 plus tax. List price in 2012 is over 50K.

I gave him a couple of grand to hold it over the weekend, do you think this is a good deal? (not yelling, but long post, so highlighting most important part). Being two years old, but still in the showroom has me a little nervous, Its obviously never been in the water or stored outside, its totally brand new, never had a motor on it, can tell by looking at the motor mount.

Let me know if you think that price is fair, its our max budget, a little scary. Or if you have a Manitou, what are your impressions.

Thanks,
Graham

My wife loves it, its 4 feet bigger than our last boat, has twice the horsepower, and the Manitou type VP performance triton hull. Being two years old, but still in the showroom has me a little nervous, but the layout is fine with me, we have four kids, and it has four fishing chairs, and couches to boot. Its obviously never been in the water or stored outside, its totally brand new, never had a motor on it, can tell by looking at the motor mount.

50 Views and no thoughts? Someone has to know if that price is good:)

It's prolly a good deal. Dealer told me my 08 Bentley 223 Cruise is worth $18500 with a then 90HP Merc 4 stroke. The 150 engine and prop alone are about $10,800 (I just bought one). Look up list for a new one just like it and compare. Dealers were better motivated back in Dec. and Jan. I saved $4500 on my engine from asking in July and buying in Jan. Good Luck.

Yes Graham, sounds like a great deal. Lots of nice options included for the price. Manitou builds a nice barge. Do some research on that new Merc 150 4-stroke. It's a new design and a few people have had some issues, but you should be able to get a 5-year warranty thrown into the deal. Good luck !!!

Thanks for the info. Ill research, would you get a different brand? Ive never had anything but awesome luck with Mercury, surprised if they had a lemon. Off to search.

Trout, I have the Merc 150 4 stroke and don't like it. Our 1st one blew a 3" hole in the block when the dealer test drove it and our 2nd one won't get over 5,200 rpm's ( motor is rated for 5,800 rpm's )

Yes, the dealer tried 4 different props and different motor heights, all with the same exact results. There are other people who have had good luck with this engine but I'm not one of them.
I would pay the difference and put a Yamaha on it.

It sounds like a fair deal if that is the boat you want. Have fun and enjoy. It is easy to have second thoughts after a purchase like that. Don't second guess yourself and instead think of all the memories you will build with her. :)

Graham, I can't knock the 4-strokes, it's just that I've been sold on the DFI-2-stroke technology for years. Merc's Optimax has been around for nearly 16 years. Generally speaking they're just as efficient, lighter weight, usually a tad quicker and often a good bit cheaper to buy. Less moving parts and all EPA compliant. We're on our 3rd Optimax, and never had any issues. Whatever issues arise w/ the newe 150 4-stroke will be resolved eventually. A lot of newly designed motors run into issues, as did some early larger Optimax's. Good luck !!!

Thanks for your input. I have lots of experience with two-strokes from my younger days with Honda 250r fourtrax ATV's, had one bored out to 330cc, from a 250cc. Those things had crazy power once you hit the power band, nothing can compare even today to a two stroke power band kick, but 4 strokes have torque down low, and they have come a long way in giving them linear power. That said, those two strokes made huge power, BUT huge noise. With the DI-2stroke, how is the noise level? Do they still have that high RPM power band kick? And if so, do they have a hard time with a holeshot? Im not opposed to a 2 stroke at all, would you enlighten me on the noise level and torque curve? As a side note, I've heard that the 150HP optimal actually makes closer to 165HP at the prop, is that known to be true?

Thank you!

Yes Graham, the Pro-XS series of Optimax push the 10% horsepower gentlemens agreement manufacturers have w/ the government. The Evinrude E-Techs HO series does the same. I don't find the noise objectionable, but not as quiet as the Verado 4-stroke of the same hp. Holeshot is excellent. Can't really say about the high rpm kick. My barge is slightly over 27' long, but between about 4500 to 5000 it definetly wakes up. It's no bass boat running on a pad though. :) Good luck & post some pics of whatever you get.

If I had $35,000 to spend I wouldn't spend it on a pontoon boat, I'd buy a real boat. Try asking 18 OR 19 and work your way up ..Don't go over 22. Remember It's already two years old. What do you have to tow the boat with.?

Per the "Merriam Webster dictionary, Boat " a vehicle of any size that is used for traveling on water". Thus my pontoon boat, IS A REAL BOAT. Sorry it doesn't meet your criteria of a boat. While your on your "real" boat, I'll be on my "fake " boat with my 4 kids and wife making "fake " memories and enjoying "fake " smiles.

Cheers,
Graham

Does that include a trailer? I just ordered a 2014 Lowe 23' tritoon, with trailer and with the same engine for about 34K. Has a similar setup with 2 fishing seats in back. I think if the full new boat warranty still applies to the hull, and you can get the 5 year warranty on the engine you are certainly not out of line with other boat manufactures pricing. It is kind of scary though isn't it?:)

Yes it includes a Rolco Tandem axel trailer with electric brakes, and full cover. Congratulations on your new purchase! Were going to have fun this summer. And yes, it is a little scary spending that on a toy, but hey, you cant take your money with you when your gone.:)

Good luck with your over priced pontoon boat , It looks very nice. How many people will it carry? Mine carries 14 grown ups. I pull it with an 04 Dodge 4x4 ThunderRoad Quad cab Hemi..

you win!.....your boat holds more people than mine..... and your tow vehicle is better than mine too.... I was planning on towing it with my 10 speed bicycle, but now ill have to reconsider.

are you for real?

Congrats on the new boat trout. Hope she brings you and your family many years of trouble free enjoyment. Just ignore the keyboard commando. Some people's children.
