I was visiting NW Jet yesterday and they were suggesting I use a new anchor
called a Slide Anchor/Box Anchor not only because it stows so easily and doesn't require any chain or needs to be backed-down when setting but because it holds in almost any bottom condition which I was skeptical about..does anyone here use this system yet before I spend the somewhat spendy money for one?

Slide Anchor and the Box Anchor are 2 different things. The Slide Anchor is for beach or sandbar use, while Box Anchor would be for regular anchoring.
I can't speak to the Box anchor, but the Slide Anchor works really well from the one or two that I have seen.

I'm to cheap to buy one myself, so I made my own sand anchor. One change to the plans, a friend of mine recomended moving the eye-bolt further down the pole for better leverage. About 18 inches instead of 10.

You can see it in use here, behind my boat. Just use the cross bar to twist it down into the sand a couple of feet.

I have a slide hammer anchor for the beach, but that is it's sole purpose. I love it. No experience with a Box anchor though. I am a Danforth style with chain kinda guy and defend chain vigorously ;)

To be fair though I have talked to a few guys that swear by box anchors. My first reaction is that they just didn't know how to use a more traditional style. I could be terribly wrong though. The box type could be the best thing since sliced bread for all that I know.

I just checked the link and I have their specific Slide style. Like bekosh's comment above, the connecting "eye" is very low and actually pulls from right at sand level when driven in properly. If you beach your boat there is nothing better. That company is based in Havasu where we do about 30% of our boating. Beaching is just the way they do it there as it is a big "look at me" place. There is also a hotel that has a nice beach right in front of the rooms and it makes it real easy to keep your babe's feet from getting wet . . . :D

The Box Anchor was my main interest mainly because it stows so nicely and from what I've read in the reviews (Trailer Boat etc) it works just as advertised..sets and retrieves without any of the usual issues. thanks all
