So I?ve replaced my deep cycle battery after my boat had taken on water from a burst pipe. My numax 10 amp charger/ conditioner also got ruined in the incident.
i purchased a 125 ah deep cycle battery to run my fridge electrics and all accessories, at this time I didn?t have a charger installed so the battery run flat I have attempted several times to charge the battery now with no success, first I used a smart charger at 20 amp that told me in its words service or replace battery, so I tried a 10 amp analogue charger this runs for about 2 min then blows the internal 15 amp fuse, volt meter shows 4.35 volts.
Am i doing something wrong or does this suggest a faulty battery any advice or suggestions would be a big help thanks

Going to be tough to get that battery back from only 4.35v. If a battery is drained right down and left to sit it will deteriorate very quickly. Deep cycle or not, anything below about 10v is usually a gonner.

You could try with a "dumb" charger that will just put out a straight charge up to about 60amps. Might work might not. Charge it in a well ventilated area and wear eye protection.

Also check the water/electrolite levels if there are access caps on the top. If it's low refill only with distilled water, never add electrolite.

Hi this battery is new about a week old, i have checked the level and all the cells are covered, is it possible that this battery was low when i purchased, or is there a chance that the moneys down the drain as they say, just trying to get a grasp on how im going to approach the poeple i got it from, they said there was a 2 year warrenty when bought, why does it blow fuses on the charger

Anything is possible Krag.......but if it won't hold a charge after a slow and easy charge rate for overnight......it's toast.

Take it back to the dealer you bought it from and they will confirm it's toast on testing.

You don't have to go into details with them. Just tell them the battery won't take a charge. It won't be the first new battery that wasn't any good and may have very well been a problem all along.

Ya got the receipt....it has a 12 month full replacement warranty?

Just plop it down on the dealers bench and tell em....no workie.

You did not say if the battery was fully immersed under water or not.
Saltwater is a great conductor of electricity and I would be clueless if the saltwater would be the conductor between the 2 posts...causing it to short out.

Or.....the failure to adequately maintain the battery and allow it to become discharged to the point of no return...that it is useless.

And.....I am clueless if that would be considered "abuse" under the warranty.
I suppose if you wanna be straight up, you "could" tell the dealer the tale of your woes on this........or not. That is your call.

Technically, if I knew that you ran the battery totally flat you would not get a warranty replacement because that does constitute abuse (or neglect to be a little more gentle). But there is a good chance this battery can be replaced under warranty by simply telling them it will not "hold" a charge. You charged it, put it in the boat and it failed in short order and will not accept a charge. From there, play dumb!
