Hello all-
I am in the process of acquiring a 1986 Bayliner Capri 1800 Bowrider. I've been on this forum for a couple of days, learned a few things already- like where the hull # is, Bayliner's Cust Service number, and some other nifty tidbits. I haven't gotten the boat as of yet- it's still sitting in my father-in-laws yard. I need to make sure that i can make it legal before owning it. I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to boats- I'm a car guy; Have been for 13 years.

Thanks
Adam

Re: New Bayliner 1800 owner

Beware of bayliner bashers out there, there are many. I owned a 1987 capri from 1993 until 2009 I used the boat about 2 times a week during the boating season with only a few minor repairs. They are known as a entry level boat. This means many options on more expensive boats that have been eliminated to keep costs down. They do use the same powertrain as all other boats so reliability should be the same. Keep a good cover to keep weather out. (this will help any boat last longer) keep up on regular maintenance and you should be able to have a lot of fun.My dad has a 78 bayliner and has kept it in great condition. Yours should have a lot of life left also. Good Luck

Yeah, i've noticed the Bayliner bashing on the internet and in real life too. I have a firm grasp on what I'm getting and what a pile of crap it may or may not be. My goal is to get it evaluated and see if i can get it to run and be legal 1st. My friends and I are really looking for a fun fishing-type boat. I'm always up for new projects- so we'll see where this gets me.
