Re: New Bayliner Capri Owner.

I feel your pain with needing to gain some muscle for the motor, I have an '85 Capri with 85 Force & no power tilt/trim. It's heavy, well not so much heavy as awkward position to handle the weight that it is. Anyway, I need to redo my deck as soon as weather breaks. I'm replacing the back to back seats with aftermarket bucket seats for the driver & passenger & some sort of bench in the rear. I could use the extra room. There is a guy on here that posted his interior redo on "YouTube" Search "Bayliner interior redo" on youtube & you should find it. He did a really nice custom rear seat that converts into a sun deck for his wife to lay on. Gave me some great ideas for my boat. You should really check it out. I figured as long as everything is coming out, might as well make it the way I like it. Sorry to dribble on, lot's o coffee today:D

Hehe I know im same i could sleep, i woke up at 6 and start search for answers and clues.Starting today i will start tearing a deck so i can get to a bottom of it to fix a cut on bottom. Will post some pictures later so everybody can see what piece of junk i got to deal with.Coffe is not a problem im on mine 4 cup already... Thanks for the youtube link i will look it .
Have u decide what kind a floor u will be putting on it. Im thinking dryply 3/4 than epoxy and resin than paint over, dont wanna carpet cause i do lot of fishing.
For seats on passenger side i will do a lounge while captain side will be captain chair or maybe back to back seat with lounge, for back i will keep those two seat just fix them and reupholoster.Front still deciding

Welcome to iboats!

You have essentially the same boat I do. The sole (a.k.a. "deck") is 1/2" plywood. I used 1/2" birch plywood to repair mine; birch is a little stiffer than regular exterior plywood. I coated the underside with polyester resin and the top with resin and fiberglass cloth. I will be painting it with Skid-No-More, purchased right here at the iboats online store.

For tilting your motor, you may want to look into this.

Re: New Bayliner Capri Owner.

Ok guys here we go.After long day searching and destroying i got this pictures to share..
Also i got new cut around 18 inches long straight cut. my friend mistake heheh he is going to patched tommorow...
I start with motor today to make sure is running than i will move on.After couple trying nothing seems to be going to my favor so i went on Boat Marine and bought new sparkplugs, new fuel Pump(cause old one was like crap) put everthing togherther motor will turn but no start ( We there somewhere should be a safety switch) i look all over cockpit and could find it so its time to look under ... It was there with no safety part on it.So again another trip to Boat Marine and got new safety switch with all accesssories. Now the motor is running like a champ. Im Happy that i cannot explain.
BUT (hm there is always a BUT) On my carbs i see Gas Leak ( Maybe cause Motor is tilt forward ) dont know yet, maybe bad gasket(not sure) so i have to check that later.
We move into boat and start working around cut that was on it.While we were working around it to take all rotten wood we make MISTAKE (another cut 18 inches long. as we going true i decide that im going to remove bench seats all the way till the hull.
Tired and stinky but still working on it.I had to remove all foam that was on that side of the boat so i can get to a hull. Tomorrow i will start on another side of a boat to make sure everthing is clean for fiberclassing,We check stingers and transom all in good shape ( I know i was suprise too) For now im taking all plywood out of boat (EVERTHING)
Probably by next week i will working on Fiberglasing hull again for safety and adding bench seat on back and passenger side of a boat.
Ok Im tired here is some pictures how did boat look..IMAG0003.jpgIMAG0004.jpgIMAG0005.jpgIMAG0006.jpgIMAG0007.jpg

How did you check said transom? Did you drill holes to check for rot??? That is the only true way to find out whats going on in there....

Re: New Bayliner Capri Owner.

Yes we did, drill arount 8 small holes thru the transom and stingers, and it come dry not even a sip of wet. so im glad i dont have to deal with it.. we got some good crazy hot weather here in florida so i took boat outside to avoid dust in garage.
I got plan now how to do a boat the way i want.
At bowl i will do complete top of 3/4 dry playwood covered in fiberglass, than under the cover im going to add some storage with 2x4 covered in fiberglass, after that i will do all over again with epoxy and cloth so it will bond with a boat hull.Sanded and than paint everthing on NoN-skid Bed Liner Black Paint.Place the top on drill some holes so i can secure top with 2x4 on bottom, add Fishing seats one on each side of boat. 2 Fishing seats will be secure with bolt on screews in case i have to remove them.Epoxy and cloth everthing again and than Paint the top with white non-skid paint.Add some Figerglass door at the bottom of Storage and bow in finish..
Continuing toward back of boat i will secure radio and steering panels to the part left from Bow.Secure everthing with Fasten bolt screews add Epoxy and cloth, make it like a one piece. Moving Backwards on left side i decide that i will do Lounge sofa all over the left and back side till behind captain chair.Everthing is going to be build by friend who knows plywood and epoxy.Still cannot decide what to put under seats. Will have probably 2 Storage 2 Coollers And one for fishing gear. When everthing in place secure it with epoxy and cloth for bond with boat floor. Inside and out of seats its going to bee fiberglass painted in white, while coolers going to have drain system to drain easy.On left side of Motor i will adding another anker box for safety and top will be place over with cover on it,Right side of motor is going to battery compartment with extra cover on.So if i wanna add or hide something will have place to do it.A seat in front of a motor is going to be removable same as behind a captain chair, for easy access to a boat (dont wanna ruin new seat covers) and also its going to be easy for me if i have to access fuel pump or lines that will go thru. So for now this is my plan. Will update soon. Here so picture so u can see what im talking about. This is going to be for captain chairemb_boat_1_-444x329.jpg This is my Loung look a like 1.jpg

Re: New Bayliner Capri Owner.

Ok it Tuesday and i spent another 3-4 hours on boat.I went under control panel and radio panel, remove all foam and floor.Who ever was repairing floor did worst job boat can get. They cut stingers support thru the whole bottom. So only two stingers and couple 4x1/2 lumber on top.I will tear all that down and replace with original looking support for stingers and hull, from top to bottom. Will not put foam under dashboards at all. Will do somekinda storage for safety equipment all in fiberglass.Went and bought Floor Plywood, cloth resin, harden sandpaper 2x4 lumber, seat plywood vinyl and seat foam.

You may want to support those console's, they look as though they are sagging without support. You don't want any extra stress on anything. Look's like you got your hands full there, but moving right along. I wish the weather was that good here so I could get started on mine.

Re: New Bayliner Capri Owner.

Looks like your making good progress!
I would look at the other B-liner resto threads and find how the original stringers and bulkheads were installed....Someone got paid big bucks to design the structural support in your boat so I would put the same thing back....just my .02

Re: New Bayliner Capri Owner.

Thanks for Reply, This morning after my Am Run i went on boat and add some more support for console. Now they stay straight with closed window so i know is alwas level.
Also i did patch those cuts made by previous owner and my friend. I Grinded all over around tape it under and peanut butter thru the cut than spread resin all over the hole.Place Cloth than resin again. wait 4 hours than all again.

Also ricky thats why i tear everthing out.Cause when i took transom part of the floor i notice that Hull and stingers dont have support at all. So my friend is going to bring stuff today. So we could work over weekend on it. Bad weather is going this way with large tunderstorms and havy rain. so at least its going to wash boat inside good.
Until saturday u guys have a nice day..

Re: New Bayliner Capri Owner.

Ok the weekend is long gone,im tired like a old dog. With help of my friend we did tear back seats benches out with lot of antsssssssss. I saw some termite so will spray the boat for termite care.
Also bought the boards so we can make bulkheads and place them where they supposed to be.
So long proccess in grinding everthing that was cut. Very very tired. Just found out that my Galvanize trailer got rust right under the nose of a boat. So i will need to patch that and repaint again also.
Stinger on the like 10 inch from transom have some rotten wood on top so i will be replacing that part with 3 part bulkhead by cutting into stinger and cure with rotwood from Lowes.Than pour resin and place bulkhead into it. Since i decide to move gas tank 1 feet all of the back is going to be bulkhead and bilge pump.
We dont wanna remove all stinger cause of that little piece.
So right side of the boat is grinded and ready. Just need to do left side than resin everthing toghether put a gas tank, place plastic cover over tank. than will see what else we need to do.
Any idea about stinger will be appritiated. thanks
