So I am new to boating world and after much going back and forth i ended up going with bayliner 195 br, with all options with 4.3 MPI /220 hp engine upgrade, except the wake tower. Not sure i made the right decision going with bayliner as there has been a bayliner bashing every where not sure why.. but after negotiations got 4k off on top of the 1500 rebate, 1 yr slip, 1 yr storage included and they had special 5 yr warranty promo on the engine , so it was hard to pass it up. i was keen on getting the glastron, gsl 195, but no deals and quite more expensive.

any thoughts , things i need to watch out for this model etc would be appreciated

Welcome to iboats.
Is this a brand new Bayliner ??? if so you should be just fine. The 80's era Bayliners were notorious for cracking transoms and rotting floors amongst other things.
Enjoy your boat.:D

Congrats on your new purchase. Newer Bayliners are alot better then the 80s ones. I have owned 80's Bayliners that were in good condition, and have had good boats. I always thought of them as the Chevy of boats. The new ones are better yet.

Exactly. The powerplants for bayliners are the same as everyone else. The older ones used way too much wood and not enough quality control so tended to rot pretty well. And they are the least expensive boats so tended to attract cheap buyers who didn't take care of them well enough. Some deserved bad reputation (although most manufacturers did the same thing). and some not.

Congrats on boat!

I agree with tschmidty. A boat from ANY mfr would like rot away the way I've seen some Bayliners "stored" by their owners.

We love our 09. She's a great boat at a great price. Only recommendation I would make is to put some threadlock on your bimini set screws. We had a few loosen up.

I also went to a 4 blade 19 pitch prop in place of the 21 pitch 3 blade. I was looking for a better hole shot and wasn't as worried about top end speed.

Enjoy!

A 195 with a 4.3 MPI? Sounds like a GREAT combo to me. Congrats and good luck with it!

Hey congrats!! I have an '06 Bayliner 195 with the 4.3 and I love it! It has the snap in carpet which is a nice touch. We use it primarily for wakeboarding and I hope to get a tower for her this summer...Keeping my fingers crossed on that one!
Hopefully boating season will be open for you when you get your boat!

Welcome you should be just fine. Bayliner is a nice, basic, no frills boat. Nothing wrong with that. Kind of like how Hyundai had an awful rep years ago that unfairly still gets attached to the name and resale value, Bayliner gets bashed frequently.

Congrats on the new boat. I have an 08 185 with 3.0L. I love it. Have had no issues with it and am real happy with the ride. 195 with 4.3 should be awesome.
Break in procedure will be in the Mercruiser manual you get with the boat. Probabley available at Mercury's web site too.
