New bayliner owner

Hi all. I just bought a '91 capri 2050, and have a few questions. First, I am new to boating, so bear with me. I just took the boat out for the first time after buying it this last weekend. When I pulled it in, and removed the drain plug, a lot of water came out. It drained for about 5 min. The previous owner said that it had always been like this from day one. He's owned it since new. My wifes uncle, (an '86 bayliner owner) thinks this is a little bit more water than should be. Any idea what is normal, and what might be the problem. The hull looks in excellent shape, a few dings, but no cracks or major damage.

Any help would be appreciated.

snitz70, welcome to iboats.
First off let me say I am not a pleasure boat owner but do think that is a little more than should be.
Water is getting in your boat and that is not a good thing.
I have a 21' bass boat that I can leave in the water all week and might get a cup out of it when I remove the drain plug. It's a '97 model.
I just think 5 minutes of water coming out is too much.

I own an '85 Capri 1950 and had a similar problem, maybe this will help. Check the water-tightness of the pull ring on the bow. I found an actice water leak there. After re-seating the ring I put clear silicone around the the threads and re-tightened the nuts letting the excess squish out around the washers. This stopped the leak. Also water seemed to take forever to drain from the bilge and I found that the drain tube had gotten clogged with dirt and leaves and what not. I got a piece of wire hanger and cleared them out. Take care though and round off the end so it doesn't poke through something you don't want it to. A little bit of water seeping through a clog can take a long time. I hope this helps.

Yeah, that's what i've been seeing. Here's a dumb question, since I am new to boating. What are the bellows? I have seen a few posts about checking them. I am also going to check all the hull connections
