Well it lasted longer than I had planned but its time to replace the Bimini on the tooner barge.. Been playing phone tag with the guy who might being doing it so in the meantime might as well get Iboats opinion..

I priced these last year around 300-400 (different material).. This guy was recommended from a friend at work..We are looking at the sunbrella red & black tweed (not the plus).. I am told (voicemail) we need 10 yards+banding and zippers for $500-$550.. Must admit I was little taking back by that price.. I am questioning the zipper part as our old top (which he has) did not have zippers.. wonder if he is making a cover for the top.

So I am just wondering do you think thats a high price?

I got mine off iboats for a lot less a little over $300 and that included mounting hardware. If you need just the replacement cover w/o any zippers then go with iboats. I really can't tell by your post if you do need them or not. If your top is OEM, you might be able to get a replacement OEM top for cheap as well and it will fit.

My bimini was made in Sunbrella and it included a boot/cover.

One bimini or 2 zipped together?

Sunbrella material is approx $25 a yard and 54" wide

He is sewing it together to create a 2 color bimini and if it's 1 bimini and he's buying a zip then he must be also making a storage boot.

I purchased cheaper biminis for my old toon at around $300 but they were mass produced standard off the shelf ones that were one color and the boot was an extra $75 - so for a custom bimini I would say $500 was fair - you could find cheaper but it would not be custom.

The old top is not OEM... No hardware needed..
One top two pieces sewed together.... not zipped together.
Yes this is not an off the self bimini and its my understanding that the sunbrella is some the best.. also comes with 10yr warranty..

$25/yd thanks steve I was tryn to find that on line

Zippers for the boot and each pocket where the rails run.. that way the top can be removed without needing to remove all the hardware..

Assuming by the yardage estimate it's a fairly large top, that price sounds reasonable. Esp with zippered pockets.

Sunbrella does run about $25/yd and is now indeed warranteed for 10yrs. That color comes in 46 & 60" width. Some colors are available in 80". To the best of my knowledge the only Sunbrella that comes in 54" is their marine furniture fabric line. The red & black is called "Dubonnet Tweed" fyi.

Price isn't at all outa the park. Frankly I might charge closer to $600 for a top like that. Just make sure you're getting good thread, read Tenara. That price should include a storage boot as well.
