So last fall I bought a Glastron 185GT, (never finished the paperwork since the dealer had to order it in). It was a good deal at the time with the Canadian dollar coming up and all. But I went to the boat show a few weeks ago and saw the current price was the same 'deal' i had gotten on my boat, I also started to think the boat was just a bit too small for the familly. So I called a dealer who I talked to over the winter and found he still had a loaded Doral 190 sunquest from 2007, got the price I wanted and now onw this boat, (which I am much happier with). Now my question, what should I tell the first dealer?

Depending on how honest you wwant to be, you could tell him your finacing fell through or you run into so money troubles over the winter that precludes you from getting a boat at this time. Did you put a deposit down? If so, is it non-refundable?

All depends on if you signed paperwork and/or placed a deposit. If you did agree in writing to buy the boat then you should stick to your word.

Since you said you didn't finish paperwork, I assume you didn't sign anything. You can then tell the dealer that you changed your mind (which is true). If you placed a deposit, you are entitled to a full refund. If you did sign something, it can be construed as a contractual obligation. Read all paperwork carefully.

i would tell him you found a better deal and bought it. he lost the sale by not following up, and getting it on contract for delivery. basically he went to sleep at the switch.

I agree with TD. Stick to the truth: You found a better deal during your "waiting period". How long did they expect you to wait I wonder...
