Sick of my 25 footer with the massive gas tank, 20 foot Cuddy that's just boring, 14 foot 20hp that can't catch fish, upside down rowboat that's used more for storage than floating. Time to get crazy again before I get old and I can't bend my knees to get under the deck to hit the go pedal! 16 foot Olson Flatbottom, small pad, inch drop at the chines to hold air. Leaving it bare bones as possible (my other boats fill up like a womans purse). Couple plastic buckets (unless I go center steer), and need a classic 6 Tower of Power SS for go juice. Heck, I get a good grin just looking at it! Those 2 big fins under the hull are turning me on! SCREAMS speed! Come on summer!

Boy that looks like an old SK boat used to run an old Taylorcraft with a 150 I/line those were great times trimed out about 68 MPH, had to watch the hard chines alittle, thats probably why that one got chine fins. Enjoy it, looks like a great ride Bob
Woops, looked again at the pictures not a chine fin, thats part of a tab on the back

What exactly is an SK. I've heard reference to it for years. Is that one of those little flat boats with a gigantic V8 that used to dump the exhaust through headers above waterline.

2 Keel fins underneath...Heres a better shot on the 1 inch dropdowns on the side of the hull...you can see it on the right side by the tab.

Heres a pic of my 1974 Switzercraft (Illinois made). 76 XS150 back in the day. Best 72mph, decent V hull, but a lot of sawing at the wheel at speed to keep it on the pad. just to much fun, and a super chick magnet!

Ya know, I remember all too well the "SK" boat, but damned if I remember just what the heck they really were either..seemed a low flatbottom, V-8 V drive, tubes out the back spewing noise and water! Have no idea where the SK came from, but think it was a make...having brian fade. Bob, got any input here?

Re: NEW BOAT! Back to my roots....

If I remember my old Hot Boat magazine articles, the "SK" came from the class initially being made for inboard ski boats. As often happens with APBA, the boats, over time, became less about ski boats and more about purely racing boats. I sure wouldn't want to ski behind a boat spewing exhaust and water out of a set of over transom pipes!

Re: NEW BOAT! Back to my roots....

Scotts, right the original SK class were ski boats, the earliest boats I can remember had small blocks and later on outboards. Soon the plywood boats were replaced by glass and the engines were big blocks, then the marine gears left for crash boxes. As the got wilder and wilder the skiers all quit out of self presevation I think and they raced round d round and river races for a couple of years, as they got faster and faster that didn't work any more so they became the first drag boats that I can remember. Thats along time back and I think I got it about right Bob

Re: NEW BOAT! Back to my roots....

We had them around here as you mentioned with the big V8, straight exhaust tubes out the back blowing watered exhaust straight back with a deafening roar.......but boy could they haul arse.

That was before the day of the padded bass boat and 300 hp OB and there was nothing on the water to catch it. Never saw one like yours....OB version.

With those fins, you probably can turn on a dime, so you might want to put sides on your seat (like off roat vehicles) to help you stay in the saddle on tight turns....that I know you are going to do. d:)

Trust me. I have ZERO intention of cutting bouys with this. I'm too much of an old drag racer, don't KNOW how to turn!
Plan is to over horsepower, aim for something on the otherside of the bay, nail it, scare myself sh%tless. Stop. Turn around and do it again unti I run out of gas! 8)
