Hi all

I just picked up a boat and motor combo with a 70 hp Evinrude. Could someone be kind enough to confirm the year of the motor? The model number is 70673D.

Is there anything particular I should know about this model of Evinrude? Is there a "tell tale" for the cooling water? I assume the fuel mix is 50:1, correct? Any common problems or failure points with this motor? The compression was tested at 130, 130 and 140 and the motor looks very clean.

Here in Canada it's time to put the boats away very soon, I hope to use the boat once or twice and then winterize it and hopefully have a pretty solid boat for next summer.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Marc.

It is a 76, so yes 50 to 1 is correct. There is no "tell tale" unless it has been retrofitted. Your compression is great, read the Winterizing thread in the faq. Good luck

Thanks. Does anyone know if there's anything in particular I should look out for on this motor?

Pretty much the usual stuff. Make sure you use TCW-3 2 stroke oil, if the boat is new to you then a change of plugs and a water pump overhaul would not do any harm. Change the lower unit lube as well being careful to look and inspect what comes out when you drain it.
A friend of mine has one and the head gasket blew out a couple of times on the middle cylinder. Your compression seems great so that is not an issue for you right now but something to keep a watch for. His has been fine for the last few years though.
