This is the site from which i learned a lot for boats and boating..
And i like to share my story with everyone here....
Im from Europe and in my country the boats are really expensive and here is best to import a boat from USA and after months of searching i finally buy a boat..
My story is long but i will try to explain my situation..
Believe me is really hard to buy a boat which you cant see and try.. :(
I started searching for older boats but after reading here a lot of stories i
learned a lot of things about stingers transom etc..I decided to buy something smaller and newer..I have a good friend in NJ who have a boat and a little experience and he was looking at the boats that i was finding on craiglist...
I finally bought a boat it is 2006 four winns 180 horizon with Volvo Penta 3.0 and i cant tell anything about the boat i only have a pictures and words from my friend that boat is in very good condition...
And after months of searching, every day skype conversation with my friend, money transfer,10 days boat stays at customs for inspection in NY and after all + 25 days shipping it will finally arrive today at Durres,Albania and i will tow it to my country Macedonia where i will than need to pay VAT customs etc.:facepalm::facepalm:..AND NOW I CAN ONLY PRAY TO GOD...

If everything goes fine i will post pictures and tell more about the boat...

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR ALL INFORMATION THAT EVERYONE SHARED HERE
I LEARNED A LOT FROM YOU GUYS..
THANK YOU ONE MORE TIME..

EVERY TIPS FOR A BEGINNER LIKE ME ARE WELCOMED...

It's funny that you mentioned importing your boat... I met a couple from Europe several years ago while staying at the Georgetown Yacht Basin on the Sassafras River. They had a Larson like me and talked about how Europeans liked to send Larson boats over to Europe because many of them liked the brand and that Larson family had roots over there.

They never really mentioned that price was a factor, I guess any brand of boat will be appealing if they are priced lower.

My advice:
  • Use the boat
  • Do the maintenance and get spare parts now
  • Familiarize yourself with any conversions that may apply between the US and your County
  • Keep reading the forums
  • Have fun
