I got a quote from my local shop. If I take off the lower unit, they will send it out and have it repaired. they said they would weld on a skeg and repair the cavitation plate too. The cost would be $200. I think it is reasonable, what do you guys think? It takes 3 days to do.
Go direct to a prop repair shop you can easily find in your local yellow pages. That's where your local shop will send it and you won't have to pay double.
Actually, I think the $200 did not include the prop and is pretty reasonable. Yes, you could probably get it down if you took it straight to the machine shop.
If you had a ss prop on the boat when that damaged accured, you would be replacing the prop shaft right now. Until you know your boat, the waters you boat in, how to put the boat on the trailer, etc., stay with the aluminum prop. It does not telegraph damage as much to the drive.
