Hi everyone I have been looking around lately for a cheap fishing boat and found a fixer upper tonight and bought it. It has a 70 Hp Chrysler 707HE motor on it. It cranks over real good and almost sounded like it fired one, there wasn't much gas in the tank and the guy said it was from last year but also said it was running rough last year. I haven't had time to mess with it but will start with fresh gas and then I am wondering where I can get ignition parts for this, not sure if it has points?

My parents have owned a couple boats and I am pretty good at working on most mechanical things but have never had to mess with a boat yet.

Another problem is the trim he said it worked fine last year but I noticed it was down along ways and tried to raise it but it won't raise it all so we had to tie the motor back for the trip home so it wouldn't bottom out. It doesn't even sound like it tries to work. Hopefully its something cheaper than the whole lift motor.

How do I go about getting parts for this engine? I have been looking online tonight and can find some stuff but not all of it. I would like to do a tune up on the ignition possibly plugs but they look newer but I will check them out also.

I don't think there is alot wrong with the motor and the boat will be real decent once I get it all fixed up. Thanks in advance.

Hi and "Welcome"! I have a 1969 70 hp Chrysler on a matching Valiant that I am finishing up. (Finally!!) I have gotten parts from Ebay, Iboats, and other online vendors with fair success. For me personally, when I need a part and I want the RIGHT part, the FIRST time, FAST, and a knowledgeable salesperson/mentor of all things Chrysler Outboard I go to Franzmarine@aol.com.

Franz may not be the cheapest guy out there, he has never claimed to be, but he is GOOD and HONEST and his customer service is better than excellent!! I've joked around with this before but when it comes to Chrysler Outboard parts/stuff...if Franz don't have it, it ain't meant to be had!!

Re: New Boater need help on 70 hp 707HE

Thanks for the replies. The serial number is 2357 and the model is 707HE which I believe is a 1972. Someone before me has recently put a new head gasket on it, spark plugs, something in the lower end also not sure what that was. I believe it has old gas right now and I plan on getting fresh gas but it doesn't seem like its firing really. I did get it to sound like it was trying to fire once last night but I haven't had alot of time to mess with it yet. I am not familiar with older engines as far as the ignition system goes, does this have points being this old? I have always worked on newer fuel injected automotive engines. I am going to try and see if I can hook power directly to the trim motor to try and raise the engine but if that doesn't work I think its probably bad? I have found them online for 250.00 approximately. I got the whole boat for 600, it needs some work but if I can get it running and the trim working I can do a little at a time. The guy I bought it from was leaning towards the carbs needing rebuilt or points.

Is there enough parts around even if I had to modify some aftermarket parts to work with this engine to keep it going all the time? It looks real clean on the motor and cranks over perfect (also a brand new starter) The electronic choke doesn't seem to be working real good also.

Re: New Boater need help on 70 hp 707HE

I figured out the trim/tilt the motor is shot. I found one on ebay for about 180 but it will be a little while before I can afford to work on the boat. Now I just need to figure out the motor. I am not sure if the linkage is broke on one spot. When I push it in reverse it moves the throttle linkage but when I put it forward it doesn't. There is a small aluminum pieces bolted on that looks ground down or broken. I would like to find some good pictures of a motor like mine with the linkage.
