So first off let me say that I am completely new to boating. I recently moved to coastal NC and have wanted to get into boating. My father has an old 17' Crestliner with a 75 hp Evinrude outboard. This was his fathers before he passed away back in the 80's. The boat has been used very little since then (maybe 3-4 times?).
So from what I can remember, and what my father told me about them trying to run it last year is that the motor is having some issues. It idles good and runs good to ~50% throttle, then it just dies. Now it sat for years so I am guessing the carbs are gummed up bad, I remember trying some carb/choke cleaner way back when but that not doing anything. I am wondering what you all thing are my options as far as getting this boat going again.
Although inexperienced with boat motors I have rebuilt ATV motors/carbs, and older car motors so I am ok in the garage. The boat and motor around probably early 80's (80-82?) or maybe even late 70's. I won't be up to NY to pick it up for another month so wanted to start doing some research. Sorry i dont have exact years I know that would be a big help, hopefully my dad calls back soon to let me know.
