I have a 86 bayliner with a 85hp force engine. My question is, can I give this throttle when Im trying to start the engine? Or just press the choke button? This may be a stupid question but O/B engines are very new to me. Can someone please help me! Thanks

Rob74,
Gently pull the throttle sideways till it locks in the neutral position. This will allow you to advance the timing without being in gear. Press the choke and crank it till it starts.(only choke it a few times or you'll flood it). Once it starts and its warmed up, you'll want to center the throttle again, press it back till it locks into normal position. Now when you move it, it will engage the gears.
Also, never race the engine in neutral. Although it revs freely, it can blow itself apart if you race it. The engine is designed to operate under load...

Put it in gear, and away you go..

At least that's what I used to do on my 87 bayliner w/ it's 85 Force....

Good Luck
Nav.
