We are a group of Boston University students working on developing a new boating accessory product. We appreciate anyone willing to take the survey and help us out.

Thanks!

I wouldn't pay $25 for that product.

Nah, it's not spam-it's what they said it was.. It's not a particularly good product though-I wouldn't buy it as it'd take up more room than a properly coiled line.

Collecting the info is probably what they are really trying to do. I seriously doubt that they actually have any interest in producing that product. I think the class is about collecting information, so filling out the questionnaire is what will give them the grade they need.

Incidentally, a local boat manufacturer over here (Askeladden, a Brunswick owned company) has introduced a very similar mechanism, called a Q-Rope, for a self-retracting docking line that is integrated within the cleats on the boat itself. The docking lines are coiled up much like the power cable on a vacum cleaner.

So far only available on their own boats, but will probably be released/licenced to other manufactureres later on. Here's a link: "http://z8.askeladden.no/?page=110&show=119"

The rest of their series is pretty neat too; click on the links below the picture to see their Z-top, Q-bed, Q-table, etc.

as a matter of fact it is already available, i saw one similar in an online catalog. all it is, is a retractable clothes line. doubt if would hold up long in a salt environment.

Tashasdaddy, I see you are right - I just googled it and came up with several hits for "retractable docking line".

And, you're right, the quality seems to vary a bit. I'd be uncomfortable mounting anything on my boat that I didn't think would hold up. But, I think the Norwegian Askeladden version seems to be up to par (see attached picture).
