Re: New Browser

yes go to www.mozilla.com and click on downloads click on firefox and download it. It works SOOOOOO much better then IE. And best of all its free. You wont have another pop up. The only problem I have is some files wont open like certian sound files.

When you buy your next computer, (eventually you will), get a $800 Mac, and never have to deal with windows again. :)

Does Mozilla work the same as IE? Ya, stupid question. What I mean is does it all look the same on your screen or is it different?

SBN, which do you like better win ME or xp? I just got a new pc and went from M.E. to xp and Im not sure I like xp..........ME seemed closer to win 98 and thats what i liked about it, Allthough everybody I have ever heard talk about it says M.E. was garbage.

SBN, please contact Microsoft immediately!!!!

You are either the one happy customer that they have been looking for, to do a testimonial commercial; or someone sold you a computer with an imposter operating system, and put the Microsoft name on it. :) :) :)

Mozilla firefox has all the same buttons as IE and it works the same except for the pop ups. Some sites need popups to work and you will need to go into the tools menu and add the site to your list but its easy to do. It looks slightly different but all the buttons are in the same places.

I don't know if you've noticed (you may have), but there is a little icon in the lower left of the status bar at the bottom that alerts you when it is blocking a popup, and you just have to double-click that icon to unblock that popup. It works well for sites where you want some of the popups, but not all. It's super convenient, and keeps you from having to go into the tools menu and all that.

It's a great browser, ain't it?

Hmmmm I thought "Jokes" were supposed to be kept to DC! :D (Sorry couldn't resist)

Back on topic

PDS

I'm NOT a puter guy but most of my friends who don't fish are Geeks/Nerds and they are puter guys. 40-50 people in our loose network of friends. 90% of them recommend Mozilla for us average guys who don't want to learn Linux(sp) or buy a MAC.

Since I'm technically challenged puter wise and didn't even want to do Mozilla, they had me upgrade to win98 SE with all updates and my system runs a whole lot better now.

Windoes-off 95 was a Nightmare for us...
I'd say be Brave (not like me) and try Mozilla.
My fishing partner loves it and he is about high tech as a set of oars! Guess that would make me the anchore :)

Re: New Browser

A note:

For network use WinME is a pain in the a..

We tried Firefox as an alternative to IE but suffered problems: We need pretty much integration between browser and Office (our intranet relies on documents being opened by the browser) and use java programming intensively.

Firefox doesn't handle this very well. We didn't go into much tweaking to make it work , but decided on IE with the latest updates which at the moment is version 6.0.2800.***x and SP1 + 5 updates.

Some of the most recommended alternative browsers (incl. free Opera) are adware beyond any reasonable limits. And built-in search-bars whose spy-ware ability is unknown.
