In a quandry as to whether to attempt a rebuild or buy a reman carb. It's been awhile since I was involved in repairs like this. I'm not confident I have the skillset or tools required to do a rebuild.

My question is...if I plunk down $500 for a reman carb how much is involved in setting it up on my 5.8L?

Re: New carb adjustments

If the exact replacement carb, should just be idle mixture, idle speed, and choke set-up. You should be able to find your engine manual in the Adults Only sticky. Review it, and see if it is something you want to tackle.

For the most part, the only thing that wears out is the seats in the low speed air needle valve.

When warmed up, if turning them in/out changes the idle charactistics, the seats are still good. Not working does not make the carb un-usable. It only affects the idle/low RPM.

Rochester solders the end of the well plugs which may leak(turn upside down) A dad of JB weld will re-seal the solder plugs.

Older holley may not have the power valve 'blow-out' check valve installed.

It's really critical to get the right rebuild kit for holley cuz the metering block gaskets are all different and match up to different block patterns.
