Last month I replaced my 8 year old Gateway/Win 98 with a "State of the Art" Compaq/Win XP. Everything going OK with the change over (except problems two weeks ago trying to load Crew Chief Pro 6, they're working on that). Yesterday afternoon when I tried to check mail, would connect to dial up ISP, but would not send/recieve mail, error messages below come up:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'POP3.the.-i.net', Server: 'smtp.the-i.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'POP3.the.-i.net', Server: 'POP3.the-i.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

When try to open Explorer it shows "page not available" message and will not do anything

Went back to default settings, disabled firewall, nada.
Two ISP techs went thru everything they knew, problem still here. HELP!

Yes I'm sending this on old Gateway, it works fine.

Thanks Dave

Re: New computer blues

Check the firewall, antivirus, anti-spyware... something has tossed up a roadblock. Zone alarm the list goes on. I also heard that Norton and AOL users just had a major clash and of course they blame each other.

Re: New computer blues

You're probably right, had anti viris turned off when trying to load Crew Chief, forgot to turn back on. Think #1 son fixed me up.
Now AV won't open because needs update, can't get update cause it don't see the connection.
Catch44 AAAAGGGUUUUUG!

Dave
