So I have this posted in the rebuilds, but wanted some feedback on my new siding and decals. I was trying to go for the modern look, and it looked great in my head and on paper, but a part of me thinks i did the exact opposite. I cut these by hand so the decals themselves only set me back about 40 bucks for the striping and 25 for the logos, so depending on how it looks in the sun come summer time (in storage as of last week, never got to see in actual sunlight) I may try and take another stab at it.

So is it half decent or did i fail miserably and nail 1972 right on the head? (insert facepalm here)

Re: new decals

I think it looks way better than "half decent". Those panels look great along w/ the new upholstery. The stripes on the side may look like older style barges because they're wide and straight, but still very nice. The back along the transom looks great. Good luck !!!

I too like the colors, but agree with you that they do have an older 'flair' too them! At least you have the only one like it...and you did it yourself!!! I do really like the color of the panels! Would've looked really classy without the orange and yellow stripes, IMHO!

Overall, you did a nice job on the pontoon!!!

Looks good to me. The images don't blow up so I cant see them closeup but for cutting by hand you did great. I did mine too but have a cutter. I did some wavy lines along the whole thing.

It can be really tough to match up all the lines with decals like you did, and looking at the pictures you did a fantastic job!

Thanks. The boat was crammed against the wall in the garage, so on one side (car drivers side) i had 10 feet to stand back and "eyeball it" and the other side (the outside picture) i had about 1.5ft to cram my body in there (the passenger side (car)) so when we wheeled it out to cover it for the winter, i was dreading the results since i had to room to stand back and "eyeball" it but luckily 1.5ft was enough, so i'm grateful of that. The stripes meet up in the front on either side of the front door, but do not go on the door. The left and right side are off by about 1/2 inch, but hell, thats great for a first timer in my book!

I appreciate the input. And maybe because the seats weren't in it but when it was bare it just seemed like it needed something. I know some of the newer boats are bare, but they usually have some sort of fancy curvy aluminum rails and supporrts to add some character and flow and here i just had old boxy frames....

Re: new decals

The upholsterer got them from rochford supply online after I picked the colors out. They were from nautolex. Thanks

Re: new decals

I think the job you did on it looks good, but the color combination and design does lends itself to older combinations. I'd just call it retro:D

I guess I could play off the retro for a bit

The job looks first rate. A little retro but I have a 1976 23' Formula that I have taken great pains to NOT loose the retro look.

Like this??

I have to drop another chair off at the upholsteres shop 2 hours away so i will get a chance to look at the couple seats he's done. I'm dropping off a jumbo captains chair to put where one of the front benches is as a luxury fishing seat. I'll have the extra bench in case it doesn't work as planned. When i go to pick them up upon completion I will be dropping off my bimini top and bimini top boot as well to get it in sunbrella grey to match the rest! Gotta love craigslist upholsterers!

Here's the before picture... $10 on craigslist, $100 to reupholster with some new foam...

Same seat all done. So all in all for upholstery for 3 bench seats, 2 captains seats, and the large 8ft back seat (1 bench and two corners), and console, i'm in it $950. Not bad when the other quotes i got were 4,000 and 5,000. I'm sure the 5000 job may have had fancier this and better that, but for the price i can't complain and I changed the color scheme 3 or 4 times which anyone else wood have said come and get your sh*t back

Re: new decals

And i think i may have found a different color scheme. I can get this decal set for 200 bucks, so if i don't like it in the spring, this is what i will be changing to...

Re: new decals

I don't see anything wrong with the other "retro" look but if your going for modern than you got it with the above :thumb:
