I was fishing with a buddy one time on his center console and near the back of the boat in the deck was a drain in each rear corner. On my boat the drains, which I think is called a self bailing system, are through the transom at deck level. Their about 3/4 inch. On my buddies boat they were in the deck and looked similiar to the drains you would see in your kitchen sink. They probably drained into 2" hose.

I like this system better than mine because I think it would obviously drain faster should I take a wave over the sides.

My question is has anyone seen this type of system?

Also if I do mine like this I think I would use 2" hose and through hull fittings going through each side right in front of the transom, but if I took on water and my fittings were below the waterline would they still drain my deck?

it is called a scupper system. the thry hull fittings have (so called) caps, flaps, to help keep water from coming in. it is going to come in anyway, if they are below water level. as when you are stopped and 2 people standing in the stern. if you have a higher level of water in the boat, than out side the water is self leveling, and will drain out the the outside water lever. there are many types, and brands of scuppers. here's a sample

That is the type of drain he had. I dont know what type of scupper he had but your right Tashasdaddy sometimes at the stern we were standing in ankle deep water. I dont want that in my boat but what if I used brass check valves in the hoses?

Maybe I should just stay with my current setup but I dont like the idea of just two 3/4 drains for my deck.

Do you guys think they would be sufficient if a wave put 6 inches of water on my deck?

Re: New Deck - New Self Bailing System

the main thing is that under the deck is completely sealed, so no excess water get there. and a wave coming from the stern the scuppers are only going to let in a little water. they all are going to leak, if you are sitting still, or trolling slow. different scuppers are better at keeping out water, the ball type have a tendency to keep more out in calm water, but in a chop the ball tends to bounce around. the flats open and close, in a chop. the check valve, i don't like as you have to have a certain amount of water weight (pressure on the valve) in the boat to force the valve open.

just food for thought.
