new distributor...bangs out da wrong pipe!

Ok sorry for the humor...but i just replaced my distributor in a ford 302 merc 888. And just cant get it to turn over othe than a few booms out the carb. It has been aligned ok per everyones instrutions but im getting frustrated. Something a new set of plug wires can fix? Plugs are in good shape...cap is good..points in good shape. Help

Go to the sticky's. Go to #23, open that link & try it again. Don't forget Ford & Chevy have different locations for #1 cylinder.

Yes it was installed per those instructions. Im going to do some continuity checksnon the wires tonight. I just expected more than a few backfires. Engine ran great last year....other than needin the new distributor.

update...found out that the dist. was 180 deg off. funny some things you won't know until you try it. Anyway.. food for thought for anyone else who replaces them.
