Hi all! New here, just bought a (80ish) Doral TRX with a 85 Merc on it. So far I have gutted it, pulled the tank and cleaned it out, had the motor running then it died and won't restart. (Suspect CDI, no spark) Built a new floor with extra cross braces, Patched the holes in the front from the E$%#$% that cut the front grab bar off.

Bought it used from a fellow in town, not new to boats but this is my first rip down and re do. The story is it was in a storage place for the winter when the owner got a call to go check out his boat as someone broke in and vandalized a few boats. He immediately pulled it out of storage as his was one of those boats. They stole everything that wasn't nailed down and then started cutting parts off that they wanted. Needless to say I did get it pretty cheap with the trailer.

My biggest issue is the hin is too damaged to read on the transom (looks like boat had a hard life, or a blind driver), going on a hunt tonight to find the hidden one, any suggestions as to where??

Here are some pics of our boat.

Cheers C.B.454

Re: New Doral TRX owner.

Welcome aboard and welcome to the Doral section.
Looks like your boat did have a rough life at some point however It looks like you are doing a fine job of the restoration and repairs.
Looks like a mid 1980's to me. The motor issues should be posted in the mercury section for best results.
I posted a link to a 1985 Doral brochure somewhere in this section. It may help you a little. It is in French though but I got by with it. If the link is no longer active I will post another link to it.
Good Luck with everything, thanks for the photos and I am sure we all look forward to more photos as you progress.
Ken.

Re: New Doral TRX owner.

Thanks Ken!

I enjoyed reading that (good thing I am french... shhhh don't tell anyone.!!) Here are some pics from tonight. Got the registration today, everything went well. Cut the Hin out of a 160 Bowrider just like mine in a marine wrecking yard and used that to register my boat. The one it was on met up with a rather large rock and nobody will be salvaging it.

Cheers Rick.

Looks like it's coming along really well. Thanks for the photos. Please keep them coming as things progress.:)

By the way, we are heading for a camping weekend to either Pittock or Conestoga this coming weekend. Near your neck of the woods.

These are the last of the build pics, just finished tonight. If all goes well I should have some pics this weekend of her in the water.

Re: New Doral TRX owner.

Hi All!

Some Quick pics of our boats (Ken and Our Doral) at the lake this past weekend, and a short video of my self testing and tuning our boat. Thanks again Ken for meeting us and all the info you passed along. I did pick up some Seafoam and stuck her in the gas and squirted a bit in the carbs at high rev, Smoked like a bugger but seems to be running much better now.

Thanks again Ken!! We will stay in touch!

Cheers Rick.

Re: New Doral TRX owner.

Rick,
It was an absolute pleasure to meet you and your family. Shame that the weather didn't co-operate Saturday night/Sunday morning.
Photos look great. Not often you get 2 Doral's of that vintage that look good together in the one place.
Glad it is running better for you.
Sending you an e-mail with some more info very shortly.
Hope you all had a great time at Pittock and look forward to meeting you all again in the near future.
Ken.

Rick,
Just checked the video. Looks like it is running a lot more like it should now.:D
Very happy for you and your family. Enjoy your boat. :):D:)
Maybe post this in the boat destinations section as well. Let some more folk see 2 great Doral's side by side.:D

Re: New Doral TRX owner.

Great pics and neat vid.

Looks like you could use some trim in the vid to get more of the hull out of the water.

Cheers.

Good point on the fine tuning. I think Rick was just happy at that time that it was planing for him. Looks like he solved his previous issues.:):)
