That Salmon River ramp isn't too bad to find. Coming from the north I take rt 9 south and the rt 82 exit, you go over a swinging bridge take a left and the ramp is right on your left as you go up 149.

Camping the night before sounds interesting, I have been on the river on a friday and have seen people camping on this island:

Basically they were anchoring right off the island, looked like that might be a potential place if you were looking to camp with your boat in the water.

I also know of the Selden Neck State part, which is between the salmon river ramp and the hamburg cove, not sure if you can camp there?

I might be interested in camping as I can't really sleep on my boat.

That was my same exact question. Thats why i fig i would just sleep somewhere down there so im not THAT GUY everybody is waiting for lol. On the river up where i live people sleep anywhere all the time, Islands, shore so ill prob just bring a tent and find a place or hell even pitch it in the lot. So anytime is a good time for me

10AM sounds like a good time to meet at the ramp, being a Sunday I am not sure how crowded it is at that time. Also if we got there at 10AM, leave the ramp on the water around 10:30, it's about a 30 minute cruise down to Hamburg cove, say 1 hour to get down there and anchored etc... that would be 11:30, about right in time for lunch... Saying meeting up in the Hamburg Cove between 11-11:30 would also be good for the people coming from the south, ie Old Saybrook ramp or other places.

Also being August 1st.... I hope to have 5-6 days in on the river before then, so hopefully I can scope some things out. I will try and post in this thread when I am planning on going so anyone else that is close to that part of the river could meet up if they wanted to.

I will also try and figure the camping idea / situation out as I was planning on doing a camping type trip sometime this summer, after I saw all of the people camping on that island last year.

ok so i emailed the CT DEP. About camping on river and from what they say is you basically cant uless its a legal place which only consist of 3 state parks and two you can only access with a canoe. So there is one Selden Neck State Park. Ill try to post the website they gave me if anyone else is interested or have any other ideas.

I can help with some of the grilling. I have a gas grill on board. Steak, chicken, hot dogs, Kabobs... Its all good.

i have a portable propane one but its kind of bulky.. i can prolly put it on top of the cooler and be good to go.. Ok so everyone wanna chip in $5 and we can have hotdogs and hamburgs.. .. up to you guys what you want to eat.. my gfs bringing cookies lol

Classic cookout / hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken, kebabs, sounds great to me. Chipping in 5-10 also sounds good, what ever is easiest...

About the fishing contest, sounds like a great idea, but I am a terrible fisherman... so I am not sure if anyone, myself included, would ever eat what I can catch....

About the water type, I think its between brackish and fresh. I know when I anchor in Essex, and go swimming I can't taste any salt water, but I could definitely be wrong. I have been there when it is supposed to be high tide and the water is flowing down river towards the sound....

Seeing as hamburg cove is further up the river, I would assume it's more a fresh water type place...

Ha ha ! Tlynch99 , I think the only reason I catch something is the fishes bad luck !!! Thanks for the reply . Classic cookout sounds cool , cost is good - I'm usualy the generous type that will show up w/xtras too .. some pot luck too would be good . peter
