Just picked up this motor all i know is its early 70 125hp evinrude to replace my Chrysler force 70. Was it a good idea?are these any good? Seems to be in good condition. It came with a parts motor, a 85 hp version of the same 125. Whats interchangeable between the 2?

I remember something about the 85 was meant to be a 125 but there was a problem with the manufacturing of the block so the 85 was borne. I recall it being a power house. That was a long time ago. I could be very wrong about this.

Im more looking at what parts from the 85hp will fit and work on my 125hp for spare parts. Ie: ignition, lower unit, water pump/impeller and things of that nature. They look to me to be nearly the same aside from the block and pistons sizes.

Some of the 85 HP models used breaker points instead of a sensor.-----Look up the parts on various websites to confirm what fits what.
