New exhaust elbow questions

Got my new OEM elbows today. They came with the plug uninstalled. It appears to have a red sealing or loctite compound on the threads. Do I need to use anything on the threads when installing or are they ready to go in as is? Also need to pick up a couple 3/4-14 to hose barb fittings for both elbows. What should I use on those threads. The fittings on my old risers were not coming off...

Just screw in the plugs with the red goo on them as is. If you want to be able to remove the fittings at a later date, some Loctite 565, Pipe Thread Sealer is a good choice.
