I'm picking up a new NauticStar 203SC deck boat with with a Yamaha F115 4 stroke next week and since its my first new motor I have a few questions about the break-in procedures. I looked at the manual online and it says to run it at 2k for the first hour, at 3k second hour, and any RPM for the next 8 but no more than 5 minutes at a time at WOT. My question is can the first several hours be done consecutive in one day or is better to do an hour at a time over different days? Also would be be ideal to run it at the recommended RPMs steady for each hour or vary the throttle from idle and back up several times while doing the break in.

One other question, the manual mentions changing the engine oil, gear oil, and plugs after the first 10 hours. Anything else to be looking for at that time?

Also since its my first deck boat and first NauticStar I'd like any thoughts on the boat or manufacturer or tips.

Thanks

Re: New F115 Break-in

I run a 200 SHO and my dealer suggested doing the first two hours all at once. If you don't do it all at once it sure gets boring. I have had no problems doing the breakin first two hours this way on two different Yamahas. During the two hour break in I would vary the rpm from idle to max for that hour about every 15 minutes. Run required rpm for 10 - 15 minutes then idle for a couple minutes then back to max allowed rpm. This break in method will help to seat the rings so the engine does not make oil. I would also check the fuel filters at the 10 hour mark.

I would let the dealer do the 10 hour service required so it is documented done by dealer

I believe checking head bolt torque is also required.

I ran the first 10 hours in 3 different days, then took it back to the dealer for the service. Haven't had any problems yet.
