This was the first time since getting my 03 F225 I had it running on ear muffs
for 5 min or so and did not any water coming out of the indicator? seems like enough time for the thermos to open, motor felt warm.
did not want to let run and over heat. I was going to put it in the water next week but now maybe I should pull the lower unit and check the pump.
But my Q was should that be enough time to get the motor up to opt temp?

use a bungee cord to firmly secure the muffs to the case or it wont pick up water. sometimes I have to bloip the throttle a bit as well. the curve on the gearcase tends to let the muffs suck air. a bungee cord is a must.

its been my experience that the f225 and f250 don't like muffs. try putting the lower unit in a large drum or tank of water then start it up. If it doesn't pick up then need to check things a little further.

I will try that would not even know where to find a big drum , but never in my last three yamaha's have I had this problem with muffs.. I am mean there is not a drop coming out .should I be getting water indicator when motor is cold?

I pulled the lower unit and checked the impeller it looks to be fine..

Not sure where els to look, that would cause this issue..

Re: new f225 no water pump stream indicator?

Well I am going to get a barrel tomorrow and try it!

I purchased the motor from a very reliable outboard rebuild company and they said the motor was totally gone through and only had 400hrs on it and the only problem they found that the timing belt was off by one notch. It runs and looks in great shape so was wondering how could this problem have gotten overlooked...

I had posted about the same problem a yr.or so ago.Its just some weird thing with some of the newer yammies.Once I put the boat in the water ,all was fine.I had a friend break an impeller.,So I helped him replace it .pulled the lower down again, checked as you did. Finally i posted here and got the same good advice your getting today.Good luck.
