I am debating buying a new (2013 but never taken off the skid or started) F25. I have always heard yamaha's are tops in terms of reliability. But now I hear the older ones, especially the F40 have carb issues. Have they worked that out? If not, will putting in sta-bil marine in the gas every fill up prevent the problem?

I find it hard to swallow paying almost $1000 more for an evinrude. But it may be worth it in terms of frustration.

FYI. $3200 for the Yamaha and $4100 for the evinrude. Both 25hp.

I'm not aware of or heard of any specific problems with F25 carb....if you buy it then I'd recommend installing a Walmart/Atwood fuel water seperater($27) on the transom, use Stabil all the time and learn to drain the carb float chamber before any extended motor lay-ups( like more than a few weeks).....it's just a small drain screw on the bottom/ side of carb( put a rag under to catch gas and screw if you drop it)...if you do these items then you'll most likely never have any fuel related problems....
