Hey Everyone!!! Been a while since I have been on here. I finally got the wife to let me find a boat to work on and take the kids out in the bay to do some fishing and swimming...

So last night I came across this oldie... Cosmetic wise on the outside it looks really good.. Floor is solid, carpet is old and needs replacing as well as seats etc... No big deal... I couldn't find the ID plate anywhere though... I was hoping you guys could help me figure out what year this may be roughly... It's a 18.5' Grew and has a 120 Merc i/o.. Pics are below... I pick it up this weekend and I would like to get going on some of the maintenace parts I will be needing. The boat sat for almost 6 years but they had it tipped up pretty high and covered with a tarp.....

Thanks for any advice and tips on what I should be doing first.

If the serial no. of the 3rd picture showing the drive is 2463535 then that should make it a 1967-1969 drive.
That might explain as well why you can't find a HIN on the boat.

Going to see if I can find one. I pick the boat up this Saturday... I figure I will be doing a lot of mechanical work since it sat for 6 years... It it was clean under the hood and on a steep incline.. I just hope it was serviced properly before they parked it..

Any suggestions as to what I should look at right away? Should I be dumping seafoam in the carbs? Drain the engine oil? etc...

Thanks.

Here's a link to getting things going in the spring.
http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi.../197783-how-to-summerize-your-winterized-boat

If you go to the mercrusier section and look at the top there's an Adults only section with tech info.

You must run it on muffs at all times.
You might want to change the oil and filter just to be sure.
I'd spray something oily in the cylinders overnight and then ground the coil and turn it over a few times to build up oil pressure before starting it.

Once you get it running and warmed up you'll find out if it was winterized properly. That's if you live where it freezes.

Good luck!

Looks like a late 60's motor so would not be a far stretch to think the boat is as well.

Well.. Had a ok weekend with the boat.. Looked it all over really good... Gear oil was really clean and no water, engine oil was clean as well.... Tried to start and no luck. Went through as much wiring as I could but could not get spark at the distributor or coil. I want to change the points, condenser and plugs. Also I would like to get a new coil. I was thinking of the Petronix ones? Anyone have some suggestions on a good aftermarket coil to replace the stock one with?

Also looks like some new wiring needs to be done. There were a few wires that were corroded pretty bad so I want to make sure everything is up to snuff with clean new wires wherever needed.

Thanks.. Will post some pics of my new toy shortly!!!
