Re: New firearm

I also have the S&W Mod. 27 which shoots very well. It can hit a 3in clay bird at 25yds all day long. Also have a Colt Officers .45 CCO with 4 1/4 barell that seems to be very particular about what you feed it. One of my favorite looking guns which is also fun to reload and shoot is my Ruger Verquero SS .45 LC. however, the fixed sights keep it from being the most accurate.

Lots of good gun info with folks that can help with shooting and all kinds of gun questions at
http://www.gun-talk.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

Kevin

ssanddemon,

If I had brought one of my kids to the range when they where 5 or 6 years old, I would have been arrested and brought up on charges of endagering the welfare of a child, as the "Bleeding Heart Librals" here where I live, have passed ordinances against exposing children under the age of 12 to firearms!!

Talk about violating your Second Ammendment Rights of The Constitution of the United States of America!

mellowyellow,

I too, love the Colt .45, Model M1911A1.

In my opinion, the best handgun to ever be mass produced!

But I even enjoyed shooting my fathers Colt .45, Model M1906.

It was a prototype for the Model M1911A1.

I think the M1906 was a better gun!

Less recoil, less parts.

Re: New firearm

I've got an old .30 cal Remington slide action rifle, but I don't shoot it as the ammo is out of production. I can get the ammo from collectors, but it runs about $30 - $40 per case.
I've also got a 7mm magnum Winchester with a scope.
I'm not much for hand guns but that .50 cal Smith & Wesson looks pretty interesting. I guess ol Dirty Harry's gonna hafta change his side arm. ;)

I carry a Beretta 92 FS in 9mm while on duty. If we are going on raids or doing a warrent round up I also put a little sat. night special 25 in my front pocket, you never know when that little gun might come in handy. For personal carry (which means walking the woods, hunting, and riding around in the truck with me) I carry a S&W 686 with 4"barrel in 357 mag. I absolutely love both of my guns. I have been thinking of swapping my Beretta in on a XP in 357 Sig but I just hate to get rid of it.

Some advice on improving your skills. With a revolver you only use your pointer, middle, and thumb fingers. If you are holding on tight with the bottom fingers you will "pull" the shot. Try to shoot it without the bottom fingers sometime and you will see what I mean. The downside to this is it doesn't work with automatics as well. If you "soft hand" a auto it will usually jam on you. Just stay calm and relax. The pistol is just an extension of your hand. Try closing your eyes and pointing your finger at the target over and over. Whenever you are comfortable that you are "hitting" it then procede to start shooting. This helps TREMENDOUSLY.

Re: New firearm

Ralph is certainly right about Massachusetts. I lived in Boston for several years...late 60's to mid 70's & I will never forget going "downtown" to the police station to get my gun permit. Right. The officer who interviewed me took one look at me (long haired hippie)and told me that he was required by law to allow me to fill out the application...but that there was no way I would be issued a permit. He wasn't kidding.

This was not even for a handgun...long gun only, sport and target IIRC. About a year later I moved to Harvard, Ma. which is about 30 mi. out in the country from Boston. Went to the local police station and asked for an application for a gun permit. No problem...fixed me right up and told me about an upcoming turkey shoot. Just had to get out of Boston proper.

Now live in Kentucky where I own what I want and do as I please.

To stop flinching (everybody thinks they don't flinch) put in 1 empty shell case and give the cylinder a spin. You will fell like an a$$ when you hear CLICK and your hand jumps in the air. If you think every shot will be the empty round you won't flinch. Also like stated above, hold your revolver loosely.

Re: New firearm

hey Heinz
Just wondering where did you find a "new" nagant?and who manufactured it.is it the carbine?.i have a hungarian made nagant carbine made in 1953.all there exept for the cleaning rod.great little rifle.rough on the shoulder if you dont hold it tight.slap the fire outa ya.and waitin for ammo?granted i cannot buy it in a store but i can easily find it at any gun show.can get a 20 round box for $2.50 if i go with military surplus or can get a box for about $5.00 if i go with new.also check out wolf ammo.they make a good round for this gun. actually it won some rather prestigious matches awhile back.
i also have a panther .50 muzzle loader. mossberg 20 GA pump marlin .22 and a ruger P94 .45 auto. very nice hand gun.shoots great recoil is comfortable and carries well.my only prob with it is that i am on the small side while this is a large framed gun.hard to conceal.

Re: New firearm

I love this posting and if you love to talk, shoot or collect guns think before you vote. Kerry is from Mass. and guns are illegal there. If you think that all Democrats are not anti gun than you are not looking at the big picture, THE MAJORITY in the house. I had to jump up on my soap box just for a minute to remind poeple to vote and to think before they do so. If you don't than this post might me read in years past as the good old days.

Thanks, Randy

Re: New firearm

Just curious - has anyone had any experience with the new S&W 500? This thing looks like it could take down large trees! The ordinance alone costs $2.00 a round.
Bob

Wow Heinz, we have similar tastes. I enjoy my Yugo 8mm Mauser, I also enjoy shooting my 22mag as well as my AK-47 with politically incorrect 30 round "banana" clip.

I've enjoy shooting FAL's in the past as well, but they weren't mine.

S&W 586 in 6-1/2 inches
Springfield .45 ACP
Mossburg 500 w/ 8 round tube
Remington 721 30-06 w/Ziess Contender 9x40 scope
and a permit to carry in Florida.
I highly suggest that all who own a gun keep it in a very safe place when not actually using said firearm. The theft rates of firearms is very high and the punks think that a gun makes them a god.
(Can I say god?)
I will now step off of my soap box.
Thank you.

Re: New firearm

I mostly chase rabbits and opossums here in New Zealand.
Mostly use a .22 Marlin 70 s/a scoped with remington subsonic so the pests don't hear the lead sneaking up on them.
Also have .22 Remington 511 with scope from 1947 (ex my Dad)
12Ga Remington 870 Express LC, 1943 .303 Parker Hale (ex Canada), .222 Savage.

Gun licenses are tougher to get here with talk of gun reg from our stupid Govt coming up again. Trouble is the Police Minister is a total #$%^wit.
Only the good guys register guns. I can't have any handguns unless I join a Pistol Club. Even then the restrictions are tough.
My license allows me to own any number of long guns (both b/a and semi auto's 10 shot max) I want but not to own any MSSA's.

I reload for my 12ga but not for the rest.

I have been using guns for near to 50 years.

Have fun :)

Peter

Re: New firearm

A gun thread. My kinda thread :)
I don't own anything special. Just a .22 for shooting, but I have shot my friend's AR15 and M4, both of which have custom machined recievers, and, umm... *might* violate the AWB of 94... ;)

I've also had the pleasure of firing his H&K USP. First and only time firing a handgun. Probably not the best for a beginner, as .45 ACP has a bit of punch, and the feeling of authorita :D , but it was fun. He just purchased a SSG 3000 which I would like to try out sometime.

I also showed my 5 year old little cousin how to clean a rifle. I explained to him why and how to check the chamber to make sure there isn't a round in there. It's all about respect.

Re: New firearm

Hey Everyone, I shot trap competively in HS and my buddy is on the Army Team and won a Bronze in skeet last Olympics and he is going for the Gold in Athens! I haven't shot in a real competition in 20+ years. I have a Ruger P94 9mm SS that is my carry weapon. I also have a Taurus mod 85 in .38 spl that is SS also. I just bought the other week a mod 65 Taurus in 357mag. Also in SS. The last time at the range, a fellow came up with the SW 50 cal in SS. He had just got it the day before. He fired it once one handed then decided to use both. Talk about a sound that commands you attention!! When you roll the cylinder of the monster instead of a click you hear a CLOCK!! He let me shoot it one time. He offered more but I didn't feel right about the cost of the ammo. Oh yeah, when you squeeze that thing off, The recoil, sound, and blast is someting the would make the Terminator smile ;) . I gotta fiqure out a way to get one :D
