I am very frustrated with this engine and help is greatly appreciated. I have a 1986 Mercury 25 XD 2 stroke 2 cylinder, new to me. It was running on one cylinder and I discovered a magnet popped off inside the flywheel. I replaced the flywheel with another in excellent shape and verified they match. Now the engine will not start at all. I have primed it in the carb. Put fuel in the cylinders and even tried starting fluid. It will only give an occasional pop as if it is out of time. I placed the new flywheel down over the woodruff key then torqued it down. Before I was running on one cylinder now none. Before I only had spark on one plug, now I have spark on both plugs. With spark, compression and fuel it must be timing. How could it be so far off? I didn’t mess with the linkages.
