I got this 82 Formula with a 260 Mecruiser and dead mechanical fuel pump. I've already ordered a new pump but the old steel fuel tubing is in bad shape. Now here's the question, do I need to use steel tubing or can I just use rubber fuel line with hose clamps? Is there that much pressure coming out of the mechanical fuel pump?

Yes you CAN use rubber fuel line, BUT the hose must be USCG approved A1 type fuel line. It will set you back about a $1 a foot, but you won't need much. The hose barbs must also be of the approved type with multiple barbs(these you can get in the plumbing section at lowes) and only use SS band style clamps.

Like 180 said, or you can get benders and flaring tools, and use copper line.
Learning that is a good lesson.
Will there be pain inflicted here? I didn't say manual'

Thanks for the input everybody. This will make the repair a little easier and I won't worry about blowing a line in the middle of the bay.
