Hey gentleman, hope you all had a great veterans day weekend. So here it is: I have a 20' grady powered by a 2000 Johnson 225hp ocean pro. Recently I towed my boat from North Carolina to New York, where I'm now stationed. I took the boat out in the bay fishing. After running the boat for about 2 hours, the engine would cut out if i tried to go faster than idle speed(5mph) or so. It also idles low and cuts out when idling in neutral(which i believe is another issues for another time).

So far this is what I've done: I was thinking there was a fuel restriction somewhere so a replace d the water/fuel seperator filter, the primer bulb and hose, and the filter inside the engine cover. Nothing... still cut s out. So i hooked up a 6 gallon tank and it was still cutting out. I just ordered my service manual so im ready to replace the fuel pump if need be. Any other ideas?

Try pumping the fuel line primer bulb a bit when trying to accelerate. I will predict that it will have no effect. However, if the motor does run better, it may be a fuel pump, but since the fuel pump is a $400+ items, I would recommend you check some other things.

Check compression, check spark to all plugs. Post back. If these items check out, the carbs may be dirty....
