Re: New Gimble Bearing

Found another merc dealer that is more resonable on the joints and seal and is open today. I got the boat to sell but being sowhat of a perfectionist I will replace it all, and who knows I may keep it for this season as it is a nice boat. Just want to make sure its right!
Thanks again.

Very clever, its for tips like these that I try and read all the threads.
Ayuh,.................That'll get the Engine out of your way...........
But,...
It Doesn't get the Shaft out of a Rusted Gimbel Bearing........

Still a Good Idea though.... ;)

Re: New Gimble Bearing

Well I got seal and u-joints done, new bellows every thing ready to slide in but it won't go that last 1.5 inches. The splines are engaging the coupler but I thing its not pressing into the gimble bearing like it should, looking over the motor I can see the shaft and it feels like its going straight for the coupler, shift shaft is about to engage so thats not the problem. I've rotated the prop to align the splines. Pulling it back off I can see where the grease is pushing at the gimble on the shaft. Hmmm

A little tinkering with the position of the gimble (not having an alignment tool) and what do ya know! She slide home within half inch or less and pulled up with the nuts the rest of the way. I polished the shaft and removed the grease an just used light oil I be in the water tomorrow! Thanks to all.

Don, that thread link helped me re-think what I was doing.

Great!!!!
Might want to keep an eye open for an alighnment bar. They are a lot cheaper than a coupler.
