Hi all, I just bought a 2005 GX205 with a Volvo 5.0GL and can't wait to start tearing up the water with it. The test run went great, and I really like the layout with the U-shaped seating.

Just wondering what those of you who have owned Glastron's for a while think of them? Have you experienced any issues with them? Also I heard from a local dealer that Glastron is in bankrupcy. I'm thinking that is likely just a casualty of the economy situation, and hoping not a reflection on quality. I know there are other brands out there that are considered better quality, but pretty sure these are solid boats. Thanks for the feedback.

Congratulations brick! Sounds like a killer boat. Post some pictures if you get a chance.
I just bought mine and have only 13 hours on the clock. It seems to be a solid boat so far. There are higher quality boats. I think Glastron is one of the better entry level boats.
Glastron was bought by Platinum Equity. 2011 boats will be built in Cadillac Michigan from what I've heard.

Wow... I didn't know Genmar filed for chapter 11... but I am happy to see that at least someone stepped up to buy the company.

That is kind of shocking because I know there are at least 3 of us on here who just purchased brand new boats from Glastron even tho the economy apparently blows? I "SHOULD" have mine next week, I was told delivery date was set for Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

Post up some pictures if you can.

Hey brick,
Does your GX205 have the VEC hull? Glastron won't be using the VEC technology for 2011 models. VEC tech stays with Larson boats.

Yes, it's got the VEC hull. Don't know too much about that. I did read a post from someone on another site saying that they had a lot of blistering on their VEC hull, but it sounds like it might have been due to leaving it in the water for extended periods of time. I saw no signs of this on the one I bought. It's only got 71 hrs. on it though, so probably hasn't had the time to develop if it's going to.

Anticipation must be killing you ThreeMile.....how long does it take to get a boat when you order one? I'm kind of in the same situation with mine. I can't get the damn thing registered until the banks get the title moved around. I'm holding out hope that they won't drag their feet, but setting the expectation that it could take up to three weeks before I can get going with it. To top things off, the weather is FINALLY starting to get decent, so who knows I may end up risking it (and potentially seeing if I can outrun a sheriff's boat with it :D)

Wow... That was actually one of the deciding factors of going with my Glastron boat. If it wasn't for the VEC technology I probably would have bought the Rienell that was $3k less at the boat show and had pretty much all the options I wanted ( less removable carpet and low profile windshield). I just found this article and I am relieved that platinum equity is going to honor our warranties.

As far as how long its taken to obtain my boat, I was told back in February it was take 6-8 weeks. I wasn't aware of this issue with Genmar, and if I do get it in fact next week it will have been just about 3 months. My dealer submitted my order on February 15th, they couldn't source one with all the options I wanted. I pretty much got everyone I could have shoved into it. I'll be making a new thread with photos and what not when I get her.
