Re: New Google Maps

I've not like GM since it's first release. It's a dog and out of date. For some reason my home and the neighbor behind me are blacked out as of 2 months ago. Maybe the gov built Area 52 in the rear of my property w/o me knowing it.

Re: New Google Maps

Sorry. PC, in this case. I am prompted to "Get the New Google Maps" each time I load the page. I did, and gave it a long try, and IMHO it has gone backwards. Trying to be too cool, but lost functionality. I used to be able to right click anywhere, and choose "Get directions to" or from. Can't do that anymore. Clumsier. Used to be able to get historical traffic. Can't find a way to do that. I honestly think they got rid of it. Maybe they plan to charge for some features, but that is un-Google like, so I am guessing that is not the motivation.

Re: New Google Maps

Yes I hate it, despise it, lost several nights of sleep over it. Literally. When they released it my tablet and phone automatically updated on a Saturday night. I discovered the Sunday after that the new update didn't support my places.... And my maps... That Thursday we were rolling out out with several hundred volunteer ham radio operators, and 586 bicyclists for a four day bike event from Cleveland down to Cincinnati.

I had spent weeks creating maps to use along the course, everything from the bike route, emergency contact information like local sheriff departments, primary and secondary repeater information, water stops, and routes for the SAGs to follow while the bikers were on trails away from the road. Only to discover 3 days before we were set to pull out, this info was all unavailable.

Finally figured out to instruct my guys to uninstall the update to get functionality back, but I was panicked to say the least.

To make it much worse, the following weekend was pedal to the point. Same deal, but with over 2,600 bikes.

Stupid move Google. There's been lots of backlash on the Google forums about people losing my places functionality, as well as just hating the new version. Google hasn't responded with so much as a peep.

Re: New Google Maps

It is amazing to me that they lost some features. Only answer is that they intend to charge for those.
