I was given a 1965 16' Fiberform last week, it's my first boat of my own.The previous owner had robbed some steering parts and now I need to replace them.
What I need is the small gear inside the steering box(the one that turns the bigger Gear that pulls the cable).Does anyone know where I can get one?
I'm close to Portland Oregon so if there's some place local that would be great,
Or just tell me what to call it so I look like a idiot next time I have to describe it thanks.
Bill

Do you know what brand it is? I just bought a set of controls and cables for my Chris Craft off ebay for $9.00 Might want to check them out.

Hi Bill... You might be able to get the part from the steering systems manufacturer (teleflex, morse, ???, and they may be "funny" about not wanting to sell you the part)... ;)

In my opinion you would probably be better off replacing the complete system..

Complete replacement systems are available starting at around $125 which include the helm, steering cable, and all the hardware...
