achris, I followed your video on adjusting the cables but must have done something wrong as the engine won't turn over at all now, just clicks. I did notice on the video you mentioned a specific length for the remote cable (3" +/- 1/4") but didn't say how to make adjustments to meet that length. Mine was 3 1/2". I ended up taking it to the boat guy, told him to check it out, also to let me know if the boat is worth repairing (only paid $420, I figured the trailer was worth that). Now I'm playing the waiting game, was supposed to hear something today but didn't!! Thanks!!! John

The adjustment of the cable has nothing to do with the engine. It only effect s the shift system. You may have bumped a wire in the process, or you could have another problem come up... There is no adjustment to the distance of travel on the remote control cable. If it's out, then the control box needs to be looked at as to why. 3-1/2" is fine....

Click of the starter could be a faulty starter, faulty wiring, low battery voltage....

I was thinking that playing with the cables could have affected the neutral safety switch or the interrupter switch but I don't know. Hopefully the shop that has it will let me know. Thanks. John

Re: New guy with problems (boat, not personal)

Well it's been awhile but I just got off the phone with the boat mechanic. After putting in a starter he has determined that the gears in my lower drive end are bad. He says that it is cheaper to buy a new lower end (about $1300) than to rebuild mine. Any input guys? I'm torn in what to do here plus I'm moving 1200 miles next month, it would be a miracle if he were to be able to get it done by then. If I do put the lower drive on plus the starter, I'm still only in this boat about $2500. So should I dump the money in it or dump the boat and look for something else? Thanks. John

^^^ I've looked at Iboats and although the drives are for sale here, the OP's link is a better deal for some reason.

I have an SE drive unit on my boat, I bought it when my lower unit gave out, it hasn't given me any trouble. I was real lucky and found the thing on craigslist for $500, bought new and used two seasons. After my experience with the used unit, I would buy a new one in a heartbeat.

I'm cheap so I get all my lower units and drives on craigslist but that 3-year warranty is very helpful when you get the new one.

Ayuh,.... I'd feel better if you were buyin' it from Right here at iboats myself,.....

Somebody's gotta pay the rent 'round here,....
I understand that completely, and thanks for reminding me. I have to make a decision whether the boat is worth it or not.

Ok, I decided to bite the bullet and replace the outdrive, just waiting on a shipping quote from iboats! Thanks all!
