I installed a new harness on a 1978 70hp merc. The engine cranks but has no spark. also replaced the stador, trigger, rectfier, coils & swithbox. Also the mercury switch checked out OK.
Please help
I think I have the right harness. It was sold to me by a dealer so I assume so. As for the spark I am not sure, when I bought the boat the harness was burned so the dealer got me a new one. Also that is why I replaced everything else on the engine. The harness he got me is a tracker harness. Will that make a differance?
If the dealer ordered it for a 78 then it should be for alt. driven ign. system and be the right one. Just a couple of other thoughts first do you know what caused the harness to burn the first time, are you talking about the engine or boat harness, if it was the engine harness make sure that there is no voltage on the blk/yellow wire as it will destroy the ign. system again--Bob
I disconnected the harness from the engine and bumped the starter. The engine runs now. I think it has something to do with the kill switch for the ignition. Is there any place I can get a wiring diagram for the harness? As for the original harness, I was told the engine was struck by lightning but when I took the cover off the person who previously owned had spliced into the harness to hook up lights and other accesories.
Thanks for your help
