I've got my hands on a 1933 (26') Sandstrom power boat (CF0010).
She obviously has had several differant motors in her long history here in Monterey, Cal.
I'm trying to figure out what kind of motor this is?

Re: New here, old boat

welcome to i boats !.

yes....there is a more appropreate forum.....the i/o forum......

this forum is mostly for hull repair/ restoration and othet chassis type questions....there is seperate forums for motor and drive....electrical....ect.

but no worries.....that what the moderators do....ill ask one to move it....so dont double post this in another forum

by the way....it just looks like a merc 140 to me.....you will need the serial number off the block for our gurus to help you better.....each bloc may look the same...but there is minor differences that change things....thats why you need the s/n

cheers

2.3 cause of the side motor mounts.

3.0 / 2.5 would have the front motor mount.

Carb in a real funny place, wish you took a pic straight down and the sides.

2.3 cause of the side motor mounts.

Never heard of a 2.3, except with Ford or a Volvo, and that is neither of those. The blocks for the 2.5 and 3.0L engines have drilled and tapped bosses for engine mounts (Industrial engines still need motor mounts)
The valve cover looks a lot like the 3.0L engines with the shift bracket attached to the valve cover. Volvo has also offered the NEW 3.0L engines with side mounts for about the last 3 or 4 years.
Since you probably have an inboard and not an IO with an outdrive, it may just be an adapted engine from a Mercruiser IO setup.
Look for a tag just above the starter. Mercruiser installed a brass SN plate there. If you have that number, it will be a lot easier to ID.

Is that the alternator on the starboard side?

Never saw a merc or omc mounted on the starboard side.

2.5 / 3.0 has the alternator on the port side.

Why it mounted from the sides?

Wheres the front mount for the 3.0. /2.5.

Looks to be monkeys put that together.

The engine mounted water pump looks to be gm.

Hencho in mexico jives with the gm.

Good grief Chief, take a break.
It's in a 1933 boat .......... long before outdrives.
The alternator is missing, probably why the belt is so loose.
The belt driven object on the starboard side could be either a raw water pump or a power steering pump. At least that is where Merc put the PS pumps, but with just a rudder, who needs PS.

Looks to be monkeys put that together.

Why do you say that. Looks to me to be rusty, and different, but knowing boats the way I do, I don't think there is that big a problem with the installation.

I tell ya if it was within 50 miles of where i am i would like to look at that motor.

I would drive it just so i could id it for sure.

Look at the stikin picture.

Who cobbles together the large hose on the starboard side with 2 clamps.

One clamp on the water pump engine mounted looks to be a gm water pump.

Than brings the large hose under the motor and uses a pipe insert cobbles into another large hose clamps there.

If that don't look like monkeys did it i don't know what does.

Look at the carb where it is mounted.

That ain't no 1933 motor.

Thats a 70 motor.

Gonna go fishin have a great day. .

Remember this from the original post

Thats a 70 motor.

To me, It actually looks like a late 80's or early 90's motor.

I bow to your wisdom, and knowledge.

That was why i thought it was a 80's 2.3.

Who puts a 3.0 in a 26 foot boat screw prop.

A diesel would be the ticket.

And to the unwarranted cracks, i take but i also can give back.

I see nothing wrong with hoses??? some needs to chill out! For a custom installation were no molded hoses are available you have to cut and splice it get it done. Same thing on our sailboat were the head exchanger was moved to the front.

That looks like a raw water pump on the left, you can see the hose on the top.

Were are the large hoses going keel cooler?

Displacement cruiser right? What kind of shape is the rest of the boat in, that's quite a bit of water in the bilge, I hope your pump works!
