i have new spark plug wires is there anything i can mess up when i lift the armature plate to install ? not sure about what looks like advance linkage and how do i get that spring and wire linked under the spark plug boot correctly ? don't want to cut the original to look. thanks. slow but sure I'll get it. the pistons travel smooth and I'm sure it's gonna run great when I'm (we) are done

Not a hard job to do...just proceed slowly and logically. You need wire-core plug wires for your outboard...not the graphite stuff you get at auto parts stores. Do one side/wire at a time so the other untouched side is available as a frame of reference/guide.

the wires are correct from vintage outboard.com i was gonna go with the originals but when i removed them from coil it was better to go with new wire and one had worn from rubbing in back of fuel filter

You probably don't need to remove the plate to change the wires. There are some wire guides which should just loosen with a short flat head screwdriver. Then just pull the wires through. Of course, loosen the coils and remove old wires. I usually spray the spark plug boots with WD40 or similar oil to remove them from the wires and re-install the new wires through them. I use a pliers to push the pin end of the spark plug spring onto the new wire. Make sure it goes in the center of the wire and makes contact with the copper core. You can check continuity with an ohm meter. Then push the wire into the boot (more oil) - a little tricky but it will go through. Make sure the spark plug pushes into the spring and you're all set.
