Piece of history right there!!! What are you going to use it on? Or is it a collectors thingy.

found it on craigslist 15 minutes from my house, i am trying to sell it but having a hard time coming up with a good starting price, it is absolutley incredible and I imagine no one has seen something like this in long time (taking into account the crate and all)

This may sound silly, but check with a war museum. They pay top dollar for this sort of thing and they also take donated material:D

Out of curiosity, what did you give for it buying it off craigslist? You can pm me if you don't want to reveal to the masses.

I originally listed the title for this thread as army surplus but someone mentioned maybe this was meant for the Marines. I was contacted by the Seabees museum in Rhode Island who are interested in it. Not sure which direction I am going with it yet.

The crate is dated May '55....what year is the motor?

Cool find! Something like that belongs in a museum.

motor is a 1944, I guess they packed in the crate in 55' but the serial number is 1944, it is truly 1 of a kind

It is actually not quite as rare as you may think. There were a ton made before the war ended and once over they were just sold off. There were 10 for sale in my area not too long ago. I went to look at another one last summer but the seller wanted $2000 for it, a bit rich for my collecting wallet. I think he still has it at that price. Still cool as heck thoughand I would love to have one!

Congrats, Contact the Maritime museum also, I would get as many offers as you can and go from there. I knew a museum would be interested in this. There are probably many more out there, but one that is in showroom condition is just like anything else old and in good shape. It will be worth more to a buyer in pristeen condition. Hmmm, kinda like boats, lol

The history in that crate needs to be preserved as is IMO

Nice motors, not common, but hardly rare. There's one at the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, and we had one in our collection awhile back, too. Many of them got snapped up from military surplus by boat racers, as that powerhead is similar to the C-Service motors run in the various 30-cuber classes of the day.
Suprisingly, I've seen a lot of them still in the crate. The oddball shaft length was part of the issue. Also, many of them ended up as lookits. ("Hey, lookit what I got.")

Really? you have seen them unused brand new in the military crate with the extra parts like mine has? I have yet to come across another one like it (meaning unused) even after searching for hours on the internet and talking to numerous museums and clubs.

Yup

You have to remember, you are talking to museums, they are not into searching for outboard motors.

Go to the aomci website forum and ask how many guys have seen one. They are the guys that search out the old iron constantly. Or search this forum too, I have been on here 5 years or so and have seen a few guys come on here wondering what they have.

The thing is awesome and would love to have one one day, and dont like being the bearer of bad news, just dont want you thinking that you have something real rare like an Indian Silver Arrow that is worth 4 or 5 thousand when you dont, thats all.
