My motor is a 1996 40hp Johnson tiller style. It had a factory kill switch on the tiller handle and the switch quit working. So I run the 2 wires, one black/yellow stripe, and the other is solid black to my temporary console and installed a push button switch. It has been working great now for about 6 months or more. I now want to install a kill switch with lanyard and bought a universal marine kill switch with 4 terminals marked M & C on them. I cut the wire on one side of the existing push button switch and hooked the black/yellow wire from the motor to the two ends for a 3 way connection from the wire on the kill switch marked M. Did the same on the solid black wire hooked into the M on the terminal.
Motor would not start. So I pulled the lanyard from the switch and it starts.
Now I know that?s backwards because it should start and then when the lanyard is pulled from the switch it should die, so now I need some help, thanx.
P.S. WHAT ARE THE 2 C'S ON THE SWITCH FOR?
