Hello all. I'm new to boat ownership, having just bought a new 2003 Campion Explorer 582 with Merc 150 EFI. Prior to picking up the boat from the dealer, they called and said they experienced an over heat alarm and found the impeller "took a set" and was not operating properly. They replaced the impeller and said problem cured.

We picked the boat up and after approximately 1 1/2 hours, the continous alarm went off indicating overheat and shut the engine down. I took it back to the dealer, where they first said the "wiring harness" was bad and they ordered a new one from Mercury. Then we were told they found the harness was loose and after tightening it up, the problem was solved. They said they lake tested it and no alarm.

Well, we took it out again today after getting it back and after about 1 1/2 hours, the alarm again went off, shut the engine down and then would not start. It seemed the battery was dead, as the engine would not turn over.

The tell tale was spitting water out fine and there was water out of the exhaust relief port. I did not trim the engine up or down and never over revved it.

We operate on the Colorado river near Bullhead City, Az./ Laughlin, Nv. I operate a patrol boat on this stretch of the river 40 hours a week, so I know the river well and we never in shallow water. I do not have a temp or water pressure gauge on the boat. Both the engine oil tank and hull tank are full.

I plan on taking it another Merc dealer now, but I was hoping I could get some ideas from of you smart OB guys out there. I know enough about OB's to hurt myself, but that's about it.

Thanks for any help you can give. John
