Hello, I am a new member and have just purchased a 1987 Starcraft Islander. I am just getting started replacing the decking and transom. I hope to be able to use the original 2.5 L OMC stern drive. She runs, shifts, and has decent compression. The hull and bottom are in good shape and is pretty much complete except the rear jump seats are missing. Does any body out there know what the XL stands for? The decals read Starcraft Islander XL. I don’t remember seeing that on other islanders that I looked at. I am also looking for ideas on building a engine cradle. I would like to be able to work on the motor and run it in the cradle. Thanks in advance for your help

I am going to pull the engine out of the boat today but I noticed that there is only one lift point. It is on the starboard front. The book shows another lift point on the port rear but all I see is the exhaust manifold. Any ideas

you need to pull the drive prior to pulling the motor

set the motor on a pallet or a few pieces of wood if you want to run it outside the boat. no need to get fancy and build a "cradle".

heck an old tire under the oil pan would work too

Thanks Scott. I pulled the drive off yesterday. What do you think I should do about only having one lift point.

Islander XL ?

I just purchased a 1987 Starcraft Islander XL. It’s a 221. Does anyone know what the XL means or is the XL equipped differently than other islanders.

Is that XL decal on each side? Looks like it was put on by a PO, SC never put an XL bird decal on any of their boats.

Thanks I was thinking the same thing. And yes it’s on both sides.
