Im not sure what model it is, but its about 16'. The boat has been in the family its whole life and was given to me a month or so ago. Engineless and full of leaves i drug it home and cleaned it up. The transom was a little soft, so ive cut it out and am in the process of rebuilding it now. The old V-4 Johnson that was on it went to the scrap heap before i got it, but i managed to trade an old Honda Big Red for a decent Mariner 60hp motor.

These were taken after i power washed it with bleach, i thought it was green at first.

No seats in it, but ill be building bench seats for it soon. Hope to have it in the water within a few weeks.

Motor is a good fit. This was a test fit to see how well it fit and ran before i started on the transom.

The paper work for it says its 16' and made in 1962, but im not 100% sure thats correct.

On the drivers side, right near where you mount the throttle controls, by that piece of wood, should be a data plate that shows Yr./Make/ Model and Horsepower recommendations. That's your best bet. If that's not available, this site has links to all of the MFG literature ever published! You can eliminate Carefree, and gypsy, kinda looks like a Niagara. Guys, lets see what we can do for this chap!

No data plate there. There is on the transom that just says X1515 on it. The only boat so far that ive seen in the literature that is close to it is the Carefree. It seems the metal door glove box was only on it.

The glove box does suggest a carefree. '62 maybe. However, Westfield or Seaway models are worth a closer look.

I would say it is a Edinboro or Westfield. The Carefree which had the glovebox like yours was only 12'8" down the center line.You state it's about 16'.The brochures were for marketing and not always spot on as far as the details go.You may visit fiberglassics .com and go into the library section.Under MFG you will see the history and brochures.I have a 67 Westfield and a 54 Cambridge. The best way to find out is to measure the center line length and the transom width. Then compare them with the numbers in the library. The Edy has a 66" transom and the Westy is 61- 1/2.The Edy is about 16-6" and the Westy is 15-8". The hulls are very similiar as is the deck hardware so without closer measurement numbers its' a tough call.The deck hardware may also give you a real close idea as to what the year is,1962 is listed in the library with specs. They were anodized white for a couple years and chrome for a few.Looks nice!!

Got my rego today and it says 16' and 1961.

I took it out for the first time in 13 years yesterday and nearly sank. Turns out the really poor looking patch on the bow was a really poor patch and broke loose. Glad to have a buddy and bucket with me. Also the prop on my motor is too flat a pitch to get any speed. Almost couldn't plane off. The guy i got the motor from says he has another prop for it, so im going to check that out later today.

Get a tape and measure her,transom and correct center line length. Does the Reg say what model it is? Glad you did not sink her.

Ive repaired the reason why i almost sank. The bow had an old repair that wasnt done very well that broke loose. I cut a hole in the floor under the bow section to see what was going on in there. I found this in there.

That was covering this.

I did a repair on the inside with 5 layers of glass cloth with west system epoxy. Took it back out friday and stayed out all day with less than a tea cup of water in the hull.

Now if only i can find out why the motor only runs on one cylinder.

Throw a post up in the Mercury/Mariner forum and you will get to the bottom of your engine problem.Quite the hole.must of been beaching her on rocks.Sounds like your enjoying her,ever measure her or figure out what model it is?

Sorry I haven't been round much...welcome aboard! ! Your mfg does look like my '61! The dash style was unique to this year,from my investigation. The glove box makes a good place to hide your stereo! My Oxford is 14'10". Keep us. Updated!

That's much like my Westfield, But again my Westfield is such by guessing as well.. It's tuff with these early 60's MFG because they all looked so similar and we're offered with many of the same options. If it measures 16.5" Then it would be a 17' in which case it could be a Westfield.

I took a look at some of the liturature, and Mr. 88 is correct. Also, the Carefree never had the simulated clapboard. It has always been a smooth hull with no floor.

Its not a Carefree, a carefree has a hard chine. This link will give you a bit of history on MFG's and has loads of their brochures. http://www.fiberglassics.com/library/MFG I think it looks like the '62 Westfield or Niagara. Hope the link helps ya
