About to order a reman motor from Rapido. Have seen more positive reviews than negative, just gonna hope for the best. But wanted to run this all past you guys, please look for red flags. Long story short is that Ithought I had a cracked block. In dismantling the motor I'm not seeing any cracks. Head gaskets were great, heads were great, can't see inside the block but dont see any cracks in the cylinder walls or in the intake valley. I suspect water was getting in through the exhaust manifolds, they are the single piece ones, lots of rust where it shouldn't be. BUT, I've got the money squared away and I've gone this far so gonna go ahead and swap it.

I'm going to order the long block. I'm going to use the old water pump, the old oil pan, power steering pump and alternator. The starter was just rebuilt and has a warranty. All the hoses look to be in good shape. Even the drive coupler looks good, from what I can see with the outdrive off. Haven't pulled the motor just yet but gonna check the flywheel too. The carb was just adjusted so I'll use it. And the distributor looked good and has a new button and cap with plugs and wires, all re-useable. Will be getting a new timing chain cover with new motor. Going to order Sierra exhaust from wholesale marine. Gotta get the manifold, riser and elbow with bellows to convert. New temp send and temp alarm and thermostat. New oil pressure send and alarm. There was this other thing that looks like some kind of send unit at the back of the intake on top, near the distributor (?). Fuel pump=reusable. Resistor=reusable. Thermostat housing is questionable. Lots of corrosion inside, has been dry so rust color is there, not sure on replacing but running out of money.

Gonna clean the bilge real good, wire tie and loom everythign that's dangling. Oh and 1 new battery.

Anything y'all recommend?

Don't reuse a $40 water pump. Why doesn't the long block come with that? Does it come with a new balancer too?

Never heard of rapido, might also want to compare with michiganmotorz

I just did this swap on a boat I bought with a cracked 305. I upgraded to the 350 for the same price. Only complaint I have with rapido is the shipping time took much longer. They told me it'd ship within 24 hours and show up 3-5 days later. Actually too 10 days on a truck with no lift gate.

Many have had good luck with Rapido so you should be fine. Only issues are what sub2010ss mentioned and they do a lousy job at packaging an engine. So long as they are guaranteeing the engine, then no worries.

Take a pic of what your looking at with the sending unit and we should be able to help. Letting us know what engine you have would help, otherwise we have to go back and look at your previous threads to figure it out

I'm fairly certain the sending unit on the block, behind the intake, next to the distributor is what gives the oil pressure gauge signal.

I actually got the motor in 3 days!!. It was strapped down to a pallet with a heavier than normal cardboard box over the top. Gasket set was inside on top along with a new oil pump, which I wasn't expecting. No complaints with delivery.

It is a '97 4.3 mercruiser.

I meant to take pics and video of the whole process but forgot when I got busy. Maybe I'll just start where I'm at and go from there with the install.

I've got my new exhaust in, found downward elbows on ebay that look brand new for $40, flappers for $30, SCORE!!

Got some other little odds and ends to order.

Does my OP sound about right? Anything you guys can think of I need to watch out for?
